I thought i'd reviewed but obviously have been remissed! I'm sorry, this is an excellent story and very moving i love the way you convey the difficult sometimes distant nature of their relationship and it is so believable time could fly by formally without them noticing (until it really is too long...) Great!

Why wasn't this scene on the DVD? It needs to be there, evern if they'd have to reshoot the whole episode for it. Period.

Aww, poor dear! Poor Elsie, so worried about Charles. I've always loved that scene in 2x02 and I've read many interpretations and follow ups to that and somehow I always love them all because, even though in many of them they're secretly married/together/more than friends, each and any of you writers manages to add something to the mix.

In this case, I really loved the undercurrent pain that slowly emerges in the scene till Elsie's outburst and crying. It's there and it's quite palpable in her words and her gestures. At the same time, I loved how Charles is so his usual oblivious self, even when it comes to his wife. And then he looks at her, really looks at her and see all the pain and worries. That was really beautiful, even though my fave bit is the one about the wedding band.

So many feelings! And yes, they are secretly married - of course! Everyone knows this after this scene (and especially after your version ;)).

The dialogue was brilliant and I hope that one day we will really see something like this on our tv screens.

but OF COURSE theyre married... Fellowes just hasnt received the memo yet... lovely little fic and so in character with the scene. Youve captured Elsies angst beautifully, how afraid she must have been about losing him.

Awh very sweet short story. I agree, almost every scene screams 'secretly married', especially the ones where she's warning him about over working. I love this though, it's very well written with lots of emotion :)

Touching, saddeningly beautious, moving from "Mr Carson take your medicine" to "Elsie I love you" in just a few rocky exchanges. Of course you must go on and feed this addiction for more in their relationship...

So beautiful, and oh so canon! I can just picture this as it happens. Your characterisation is spot on.
