This is a very amusing first person perspective, I'm imagining Watson's hair and moustache are purple. Or just his hair.
You can definitely read the irritation, but it's more frustration later on. :)

LOL! That was comedy gold! I wonder how Holmes put up with a purple haired Watson! I would have been embarrassed if I were in that situation regardless of whichever scenario I'm in.
