Margot's Metal Heart chapter 1 . 2/18/2013
I wish all old white women would visit me on a fire escape and give me pie. That's the world I want to live in. Mostly they just tell me about their successful grandchildren or their husband's kidney problems.

The Hillwood Stalker's Coalition, Population: Helga, Pookie, Brainy...am I missing anyone?

Nep2uune chapter 1 . 6/13/2012
I loved this! I always wondered what Gertie thought about everyone. Just because she acts crazy doesn't mean she is. I love the reference to Anne Shirley of Green Gables. That is one of my favorite childhood stories. Anne is both Helga and Lila rolled into one. (That would be a good story for someone to do Helga as Anne Shirley-hahaha) My favorite line in this story was when Gertie wished that the girl could find better ways to spend her time until Arnold bought a vowel, and got a clue. She knows her grandson so well. I to hope Helga would do the same because I know Arnold knows of Helga feelings. That was the best description of Lila I have ever heard of. I think Lila do get the bad deals from alot of people. I just don't want her with Arnold. They seem to boring where is the drama. Everyone always make her out to be a slut or mean. I think Lila would be great with Arnie or Stinky. Because they love the country life. I think if Lila had to pick between Arnold and Arnie she would pick Arnie. I believe they have more in common.(that would be another good story for someone)

Please update or continue.
Aoife Miranda chapter 1 . 6/12/2012
Once again, you never cease to write an amazing story! :)

Does this mean that you'll be posting "Shine A Little Love" soon? I miss that story like you have no idea.

I really love the kinship Gertie has with both Arnold AND Helga in this story and how she understands the two of them so well. The interactions Gertie shares with the two of them written from HER perspective adds some much-needed depth to her character. I liked how she likened Arnold to both Phil and Miles - with his grandfather's stubbornness and as you mentioned - Miles' "ability" for falling for the wrong girl. I bet Gertie was relieved when Miles found Stella... and this also makes me really want an offshoot of "Hey Arnold!" chronicling Miles' childhood and life growing up, along with is mishaps in romance type of thing. It's just really interesting to think about how he passed that down to Arnold.

I also reread "Gladius Hispaniensis", and I'm sure Miles is named after the jazz musician. And your headcanon regarding Gertie's early life and history is so fascinating, especially with how she travelled and was a cook. Also, it rocks that she listens to Blue Ôyster Cult; I'm pretty sure she must have a cowbell on hand for whenever "Don't Fear the Reaper" comes on. ;)

Anyway, your descriptions of Lila are spot-on! Saccharine, TOO sweet, and the quote "In fact, the brix of the girl was so strong; Gertrude felt that if she had any teeth left in her head, Lila would surely make the enamel slide clean off them." Admittedly, I never liked how Craig Bartlett and the other writers handled Lila's character in the series... she was used as more of a prop rather than a character, but you're still right about Lila; I just wish that people would be more willing to examine the layers - along with Rhonda, Curly, and the other secondary characters.

And Helga... Gertie really does share a kinship with her. They both know all too well how unrequited love feels - and it's really heartbreaking to see that Helga would go to such dangerous depths for Arnold's approval; surely Gertie wants more for her, especially since she knows that Arnold and Helga belong together in this universe.

I really loved their bonding moment too. It was written so wonderfully - and seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if Arnold and Lila ended up running into Gertie and Helga cooking together in the kitchen. Hell, we all know Gertie planned it that way.

This was another great fic! Keep rockin' it!
