You are correct in the fact Minato did NOT design the seals used on Naruto, he designed the sealing TECHNIQUE known as Hakke Fuin no Jutsu or Eight-Trigrams Sealing Technique which was used to apply TWO Shisho Fuin or Four Symbol Seals, which were created by the Uzumaki clan, which was applied BEFORE the Shikki Fuin or Dead Demon Consuming Seal, which was ALSO designed by the Uzumaki clan. Naruto does not possess a single seal but a complex sealing ARRAY consisting of THREE seals, the Shiki Fuin is what imprisons Kurama, Kushina may have had one and Mito Uzumaki may have used her own dying life-force to summon the Shinigami. The Four Symbols seals disrupt the Shiki Fuin enough to allow Kurama's chakra to leak and be pulled from Naruto as well as allowing Naruto to unlock the seal and claim all of Kurama's chakra, which he eventually did. Note, it looked like Tobi used the same sealing method as Minato to extract Kurama as the seals appeared on Kushina after she was kidnapped during the extraction, this would allow Kurama''s chakra to leak, shrouding Kushina like it did, and then it showed Obito "unlock" the seal fully releasing Kurama, similar to the same way Naruto did when he unlocked Kurama for their showdown. Either way, Minato never designed either seal, he designed the means of applying them, the Hakke Fuin no Shiki, though to be fair, I think a lot of fans make this mistake because the English dub, as usual, incorrectly translated the process.

Also, your idea of Kurama using Naruto as a mask and people mistaking it for the real Naruto was VERY ingenious and realistic since in almost any sense of a "possession" by a spirit, the same thing happens. Take DC Comic's Blackest Night series, those resurrected by the Black Lantern Rings were technically possessed, but they acted like their former selves to get close to and murder their loved ones, a prime example Tula aka Aquagirl using her past love for Garth aka Tempest to get close enough to rip his heart out, but the fact was it was never Tula to begin with, it was a Black Lantern Ring reanimating her body. This is also seen in numerous ghost movies where people are possessed by evil spirits using their visage and even personality to kill those close to them, like Pet Cemetary, etc, etc. So GOOD call there!
