Drove me nuts that Jane would drink belladonna at the end, when the first try caused a seizure! Thanks for 'fixing' it so convincingly. :)

This was nicely handled. It is fortunate that Devil's Cherry was the one and only foray the Mentalist writers made into Jane's mind on drugs. And this would be a very believable explanation for why he might decline further experimentation. Lisbon's anger and her love are well balanced here, handled delicately enough to be entirely believable. Jane's contrition is also easily understood, in light of the horrific results of this experiment.

I liked so many of your subtle touches of characterization, like Jane being distressed that Lisbon had verbally separated him from her team, and reading two simultaneous and somewhat contradictory (and also entirely in character) thoughts off her face at the end. And especially his successful attempt to induce a shiver.

There is also the nice philosophical touch of Lisbon's excellent advice, and the fact that Jane really did take it seriously.

I always suspected Jane's second trip was traumatizing. I wish Jane could let go of his obsession, even just a little bit. He'd be so much happier. But that's what fan fic is for. Thank you for sharing your imagination.

Your characterizations are spot-on, and I love that you turned such a sorrowful moment for Jane into a more positive ending, because I couldn't imagine Lisbon not taking care of Jane after such an emotional ordeal. Thanks to you, in my head canon, this is totally what happened after the episode. Thank you for sharing, I absolutely loved your story, and I am definitely checking out your other stories, sooner rather than later ;)
