It is writers like you that make me come back to the Digimon fandom again and again.
This was just - gods. Usually I always (ALWAYS) have some sort of critique to spare, even for the best sorts, and yet I cannot even spare a small one here. There is nothing I can pick at.

Your characterization of Jenrya and Ruki (and...everyone else really), the insight within the dialogue, the development to friendship and later towards something like affection - all of it was so natural and realistically paced. I have lost count by now on the number of times I've had to advise writers on their pacing of 'romance.' This right here was not quite a study of romance but on how to get there and even then, not so much. If someone asks me how to do it right, no matter for what world they are writing for, I will point them to this. Sure, it also depends on the formula of the characters' personalities but it's quite apparent to me (and others, I'm sure) that you are aware of the essence of what makes for a believable relationship, 'love' or otherwise.

Even by the end, I am still in awe of how you had never once faltered in these characters' skins. Ruki's overwhelming pride and cynicism. Jenrya's composed, patient, and wise demeanor. Both precocious in their own ways. No matter what the circumstances or how long they have known each other, nothing has regressed. They did not lose any part of themselves but only had more to gain, Ruki especially. Her revelation on the sort of romance she would fall into - that is certainly an agreeable and mature deduction on your part for her character. I feel like I have more to say but the words would only be different shades of beautiful and marvelous.

Truly - thank-you for taking your time creating this piece and sharing it. And please, never, ever stop writing.

This is amazing! It took me over 45 minutes to read, and you got the characters personalities spot on . I loved the ending... "Neither one of us is going to say it, are we?"

I know that you know your work by heart, but I would like to offer you my compliment: this is the best conversation of love that I've ever read in a fanfic. I also liked the fact that you included her grandmother by having this conversation. It is very timely and relevant.

"Well... you have a lot of energy, a lot of drive and determination, but you haven't had anything to do with that energy lately. I've seen you getting bored and frustrated. If your new friend can give you something to focus your talents, all to the better. And he sounds like a nice young man."

Ruki caught the note in her grandmother's voice. "Come on, he's just a friend. I'm not going to fall in love with him or anything."

Her grandmother laughed. "To listen to the way you talk, you'd think love were some terrible disease you might catch."

"What do you mean?" asked Ruki, looking puzzled.

"Well... let me put it like this. That flower over there on the windowsill, I raised from a seed, and took care of every day so it would grow. When I was a little girl, I had a pet puppy that would follow me to school and wait at the door until I came out. I loved your grandfather. I also love you and your mother, and I love all my friends. Likewise, I love this flower and I loved the puppy. But that's not all the same kind of love, is it?"

"I guess not," said Ruki, trying to make it all make sense. "I guess you mean I could maybe love someone without acting all stupid about them. I mean, you love me and you never act stupid."

She laughed a little. "Thank you. No, I show my love in other ways... like listening to you when you need someone to talk to, and fixing these holes in your shirt.

"It's almost as bad," said Ruki. "When people fall in love, they act all stupid and spout poetry and stuff. I'm not going to do that."

"Some people do that when they're in love," her grandmother replied, "but that's not what love is - or not the only kind. There are different ways to love someone, you know."

Haha I laughed at the 'Dont let Terriermon come' it would be hilarious to read if Terriermon and Renamon went to spy on them on their date :]

Really nicely done fic. I always felt Jen and Ruki make a decent couple due to how different they are from each other
