So glad I stumbled across this; I really, really enjoyed it! A great depiction of the brotherly relationship without Kili coming across as a crybaby and an awesome Fili in so many ways. I also liked your Thorin, very true to my feelings about him. Stern, gruff, but underneath it all he does care about his charges.

Wow, a fanfic written for a prompt like that and it actually WORKS. No gratuitous slash, no gratuitous injuries... it's amazing! It's like a miracle! And everything seems spelled right with proper grammar and punctuation... Okay, I'm deliriously happy at finding this gem after wading through so many... um... less than stellar fics.

I must say, Fili knocking off the orc's head with his warhammer IS quite impressive. I am also impressed that you included that detail - him having a warhammer, I mean - since most people don't know that. *bows* This is great!

The addition of kindly Bilbo is also quite nice, perfectly in character. I love the brothers' bantering, too, as it seems just like a pair of boys out camping and griping together about it. Fili's line about having finally got Kili to shut up and yet not being able to be happy about it just takes the cake. It's priceless. It just encapsulates their relationship in a light-hearted way that still carries deep meaning.

This is totally being favorited.
