This is an adult fic for adult readers. You have to read between the lines and actually imagine you are witnessing the scenes played out in front of you. You have to imagine their expressions and their tones of voice and also their FEELINGS. That is why people like it because it makes them actually have feels. So now how would you feel if you weren't sure what your boyfriend was feeling because HE NEVER EXPRESSES HIMSELF except through sex? Likewise imagine you are a man from a place where it is taboo to feel and where you have always struggled because you know that you do, where you were an outsider always looked down upon because of your Human mother who was likewise the only person who you ever felt anything good for? The one person who was both the only source of joy for you and at the same time the cause of your 'otherness'. Feeling ANYTHING is a conflict for you because you do feel, you like how Nyota makes you feel but at the same time you think you shouldn't feel. Worse, imagine trying to voice those emotions out loud. We know Nu Spock has violent outbursts, old Spock did too and in the 2009 movie it is canon that Spock gets violent when emotional because he beats the shit out of Kirk. Why on Earth would Ny be so bothered by Spock freaking out on the Bridge in the first movie if she didn't know WHY it is such a problem for Spock? Bearing ALL of this in mind, now look again at Nyota's reactions in this fic. Look at Ny in the first movie - always snippy and snarky when she's not being the obedient, dutiful Starfleet cadet or the smoochy girlfriend. This is a girl with attitude who is in a military organization and will have to enter life or death combat situations, not some fluffy cute schmoopy ditz. So then this man who is brilliant and handsome and unique and WORSE is your teacher with whom your entire romance is forbidden, he makes you feel all these things you've never felt before and you're scared and falling in love and yet you think he doesn't or cannot love you because he's Vulcan and see above and then suddenly, he's all pissy because you went out with your friends looking beautiful and stunning and being yourself and you think, jesus you jerk, you don't have the right to act like this when you constantly claim to feel nothing and you never let me believe this was anything other than sex. And actually, Ny would be justified in feeling this even if Spock was a Human because Human men do more or less the same thing, refuse to acknowledge their feelings. Then add Spock to it, he doesn't understand what he is feeling - jealousy - and he can't express it. At the same time he can't help it because he DOES feel and he DOES love her and she's so cagey and won't admit it either - because she is struggling to understand you because you are AN ALIEN FROM ANOTHER PLANET AND A MAN TO BOOT.

Now read ALL of Sufficiently Familiar including this chapter and tell me you don't understand why they act the way they do. In addition, there are TWO occasions when Spock goes to meditate post sex. The first time they do it and Ny doesn't know him and thinks maybe she should have been more coy and holy shit I banged my teacher on our first not even really a date and maybe he thinks I'm a slut and everyone else will think so too and GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE. Maybe some readers have never had that experience but it happens. The second time he meditates is after very turbulent dubiously consensual sex followed by MORE violent outbursts. Here, it is not the meditation that pisses her off, it is his refusal to talk to her about what he is feeling. Ny feels like a caged animal and she is so angry she lashes out verbally in an effort to hurt his feelings, which she does.

So yeah, Spock does have the capacity for violence and Ny is perfectly within her rights to get angry with him.

I love yout fics but sometimes I dont understand them. I mean, Nyota ALWAYS gets upset about only god knows what and I try to understand why she is upset by the simplest of comments Spock makes, so I read it again and I still can find a reason other than her being a snippy bitch. And then he gets strangely violent which is sooo OOC for him, and then I'm lost and I dont even know whats going on anymore. Like wth your other fic when every time they had sex and he was going to mediate afterwars - something thats common for his people, and she knows that - she gets mad for whatever reason and says it was all a mistake and leaves... and there I go again trying to understand what happened and I cant...

It's even better when you read the other story because you put things in context and his behavior makes more sense in that moment of their relationship.. how insecure he was and how she made him completely irrational with need but also how insecure she's too and torn between her need for him and the fear that she loves him.
