Reviews for The Road
catdog123 chapter 1 . 7/23/2019
As a person who does not like, but appreciates, "The Road", I found an immense amount of pleasure from reading this work. Not only does it mimic McCarthy's style of writing to a T with the repetition of "Okay. Okay" between the two characters, but also brings in minor elements of the story that help emphasize the story. One of these is the irony that as soon as the boy and the man go hungry, a supermarket magically appears, or a basement chuck full of canned food, or say a ship that also magically has a lot of canned food on it. With the number of people who are living their lives like the boy and the man, how are there places like these that magically appear after years of living like this?

One part of this piece that puzzles me is your reference that god does not exist. While it can be easy to assume that in this post-apocalyptic world that's dark and depressing, there can be no remnants of God, or at least hope for him. Surprisingly, McCarthy pulls in many biblical allusions, especially towards the boy. The man describes the son as "golden" (152) and suggests that he can be a savior to the new world. Alongside this, the character Ely, who also happens to be the only named character in the novel, is an allusion to the biblical character Elijah, a prophet who foresaw the second coming of Christ. Like Elijah, Ely mentions "[he] knew [the apocalypse] was coming . . . [He] always believed in it" (168). While the dreariness of this novel suggests God can not exist, McCarthy seems to point at otherwise, making his viewers believe through his allusions that there could be a glimpse of hope at the end of this miserable road.

While I praise your work, as it strikes many of the criticism I have towards McCarthy and his "lack of imagination" and lack of punctuation that he uses, I wonder if you would maintain the lack of God mantra you have included or if it would divert you in a different direction.

Omg I have to read this book as an assignment but it was so depressing so I looked for fan fiction to pick me up. Glad I found this it's great- I didn't think this would be funny but it is. Great replication of mccarthys writing s too

aboywhowantedtobegod chapter 1 . 5/31/2015
Ok, I love the road, I think it is one of the best post apocalyptic stories ive read. But this is just fucking amazing. This was a very funny satire which pointed on some flaws in the novel, and even though the source material is depressing, this was fucking hilarious :)
Fan chapter 1 . 11/6/2014
You are raping a wonderful piece of literature. Shoot yourself. "There's no Heaven" WTF?
Sebastian chapter 1 . 12/19/2013
You win everything. This is perfect in every way. I had to study the original POS for school and this is a perfect parody of everything terrible about the original. Take all my money. You win.
Radio Free Death chapter 1 . 10/27/2013
This wasn't a bad attempt at pointing out some of the problems within the novel. There were some misses, like the 'you sound like a woman' comment, which didn't add to anything and felt unnecessary. Did wish there were more comments about the whole cannibalism doesn't make you evil, but I think the story did make mention of how cartoonishly evil the cannibals were with the whole 'eating brains and putting your head on a stick'. Good times :D
Kinola chapter 1 . 7/26/2013
I never liked "The Road" anyway.

Last part got me good. :D
