I used to play go since I was 5, until I was about twelve. I hated it, but my parents wouldn’t let me stop until I was in middle school, and then I got the hell out and never looked back. I read Hikaru no go when I was 7 but thought it was very light-hearted and didn’t think much of it until I reread it a week ago. I’m 18 now, and all of a sudden I felt a pang and felt that I had to revisit weiqi after half a decade of not touching it. I felt the same way Hikaru did in this fic, and I tried to log in to my old Netgo account but lost the password. Thankfully, the netgo kept an archive of my old games and I could look at them without needing to log in, and i ended up looking at some of my games from 2010 before creating a new account to play Go for the first time in 5 years. It was a very strange and powerful moment, returning to the game. Thank you for writing this scenario. I relate deeply to this imagining that you’ve given us, and I guess I understand hikarus clean break with the account and moving on by deleting it, but I still flinch to think that sais archives are gone! Also nice cameo of waya hehe ;) |
