YEOWCH! poor kili! i actually dislocated BOTH my arms at the same time as a kid onthe hanging rings at the play ground. OMG that was painful, but once back in, what a relief.

i'm enjoying seeing the tight brotherly bonds between the boys. :)

LOVE this story so much! Balin is incredible and so is Bofur. I love how much they stand up for Kili!

When ideas assault us all we can do is go with them.
While my head canon is fairly similar to yours, I liked this story. This type of behavior certainly wouldn't be a stretch based on what we have seen of Thorin's personality.
More along this line would be good should more inspiration strike.

On the contrary, I found this a great ending, especially for a missing scene! And I'm so happy that Balin told Dwalin what for. We didn't see much favoritism in the book or film, but I could see it happening, especially with Fili being the oldest, the heir, and more of a proper-looking dwarf than Kili. Great job! Thank you for writing and sharing!

Bless his heart - you were right - Fili is the best brother ever! Gods, poor Kili! I remember what it was like to have my elbow pulled out of socket and can't imagine what a shoulder would feel like! I'm so happy Balin fixed it! And I think you've perfectly captured the brother's relationship :) And Thorin, LOL! I could just hear Balin's voice saying this: "No doubt there's something your uncle's forgotten to pack. Or a map he's forgotten to consult. Or a hobbit he's forgotten to scold. " Too perfect!

Wow, that was one determined pony. What a jerk! Oh no... it sounds like Kili got injured. It would be hard not to in that current! And just for future reference, the cinch and girth strap hold a (western) saddle in place, so I imagine a pack pony would have something similar.

Okay, so I love this story and I cannot wait to see what happens next, I was just wondering if you realized you have it set to complete? Were you planning on starting a different story with as sort of a sequel? Or is it truly, honestly complete?

As for ideas, maybe you could do something where Kili manages to pull something off that he's really proud of (maybe while they're in Rivendell he and an elf have a bit of a friendly (or not) shooting competition and Kili beats him) and instead him seeking out Thorin or Dwalin (who saw and would've been natural choices considering they're ones who taught him) for approval, he turns to Balin and Thorin and Dwalin can't quite figure out why he wasn't going to them? I mean, I don't know where you're planning on going with this but this would be something I'd be interested in seeing.

Awww poor Kili. Good for Balin for sticking up for him. I personally agree with you about Thorin, but this was fun and it worked. I also agree about Fili and Kili's relationship being private, so a look from an outsider was interesting. I think you did a really great job on this and I'm definitely looking forward to more from you. I'd gladly read it if you play around more with this idea.
