Because no one could confirm when Mr. Hiroshi died, and since the police (the people who know the most about the case EVER) stated that the best they could come up with was a vague ToD, well doesn't it put into question how Ran could get a more accurate ToD than the police? There is only one person who could know a victim's Time of Death best, the Murderer.
Plus, there is a murder mystery riddle just like this, same lines and everything sans the names, and it's was the reporter in the case. I'm not complaining and it's for fun, and creating these things takes time and alot of effort, but it does make me sad :'( . But that saying, I want to know why?
I mean, in the original, the reporter killed the victim just to get a fairly juicy and decent story from her normal drawl. And I know this is not supposed to be canon or character based and stuff, but it's hard to imagine Ran randomly killing someone for a reason like that. So...why?

Anyway, great idea of a fanfic. 4/5 Needs more Bells. Also, it'd be nice that the answers be posted in someplace like the reviews or the next chapter or something. Good luck.
