Reviews for Sacred Dawn
dragon-algeeee chapter 1 . 2/16/2016
So it turns out that I have never written a review for Sacred Dawn despite the amount of times I have read it which is absurd. So here is the serious review of the day.
Sacred Dawn has been, ever since I read it a while back, my favourite go to fic to read. I have had it saved on every phone I've ever owned because I love it so so much. I've read it so many times that I lost track ages ago. Of course I love the fact that my favourite characters survive (unlike Yggdrasil maybe?). Fíli and Kíli reunion is so so perfect.
I love everything about Sacred Dawn; there aren't any flaws that I could think of right now. The fact that it ends so happy means I can read it anytime and not feel like crying my eyes out for once so thank you.
BakerStreetIsLastRefugeOfHope chapter 1 . 1/7/2014
Very well written.
Soledad chapter 1 . 10/12/2013
I'm having a serious Awww! moment here...
JeanLaQ chapter 1 . 7/14/2013
I don't even know if I have the words to tell you how much I like this story; it's just so good! Of course I am happy that everyone survives the battle. I think you did such a great job of building the suspense throughout the piece; I really didn't know what the outcome was going to be, and I was dreading them having to tell Kili that his beloved Fili hadn't survived. Or telling poor Ori that one or both of this brothers had also fallen. You conveyed the emotions so beautifully. Thank you so much for posting this!

Enjoy led this! Glad our boys are back together.
laura0506 chapter 1 . 4/29/2013
You made me cry! That's such a sad story...
Umecchi chapter 1 . 3/29/2013
I like how they don't die. I'm really dreading the last movie, because I know I'm going to be a blubbering mess when Kili and Fili die-I don't care much about Thorin; I only
Like it when he lives because then he can take his place as King Under the Mountain and Fili can still go off gallivanting with Kili. Thank you for the story, I can tell that you pit a lot of work into it, and I appreciate it. :)

Awesome fic!
kim-onka chapter 1 . 3/23/2013
Oh, wow, is that Laora writing an AU that actually ends better that the original? People (okay, dwarves) are actually saved? Amazing ;)
And that with the sequence of fear, angst, grief and guilt that you are always so good at. I'm a big Tolkien fan but I'm not used to the concept of Tolkien fanfiction; also, I get the feeling that his writing never focused much on such personal thoughts and emotions, let alone in The Hobbit, so it feels a bit strange to see his characters explored that way. And you took characters that, if I remember correctly, were pretty much background in the book. From the timing I guess your Hobbit stories are partly inspired by the movie, where the dwarves got more characterisation, even if it's two years to the battle.
That said, here it works. It's not as amazing as some of your stories, but it is really good in the way it depicts all those feelings, from stunned confusion, to dread of uncertainty, to relief. The final part is very heartwarming. Kili's thoughts on elf healers are a nice touch, and Bilbo's visit too. Although I think it's a bit of an overstatement that it was Bilbo who has "gotten a company of thirteen dwarves across Middle Earth in one piece", for all his contribution ;)
GBlackwell chapter 1 . 3/17/2013
This was very good. I hate to say that, because the words "very good" always sound so bleh to me, but it really was. It was-as I've come to expect from you-very introspective, with a focus on feeling and thought rather than on plot. I think the only plot-focused thing I've read by you was Penance, actually, unless I'm forgetting something (Bad Romance, I guess, was too).

This is the second one shot you've written based on Fili and Kili. And... I wouldn't say I have a problem with that, but I am a little confused? I hardly remember them from when I read the books, and they got... maybe fifteen minutes of screen-time to flesh out their personalities? Eh. I guess there's a lot you can extrapolate a lot of sympathy for what's happened for them, but it wasn't shown that much in the film or even the book. Tolkien didn't really give the dwarves a lot of characterization in the books, something that's kind of odd...

I think that your writing here is kind of tonally dissonant from Tolkien's works. Again, it's not like I have a problem with that, but for the most part the Hobbit really didn't focus on character introspection or emotional moments. It was more plot-driven, fun adventure stuff. So it's kind of weird for me to read this thing about two characters who, to me, where never really much more than cardboard cut-outs in the background. I hate to say that about some characters in Tolkiens's work, since I really do appreciate him as an author, but there you go.

I guess it's good you wrote this, I guess, but I feel like it's not really set in the world of the Hobbit. It almost seems like you are writing about characters from an entirely different series... Though it's still good, as I've said.

So my question is: Why Fili and Kili? What's made them the subject of so much thought on your part? I'm curious.
Wayward Dragon chapter 1 . 3/17/2013
This was awesome! Any story that has the line of Durin surviving the Battle of Five Armies is definitely a good story, but I think this just may be a great one. I like the friendship elements between Ori and Kili. And I LOVE your characterization of Bilbo.

"Kíli can see the honesty in the hobbit's gaze, and he knows that as much as he doesn't want to go, he will, because that's the kind of person Bilbo Baggins is. He's not the timid, soft creature they met back in the Shire; he's hardened, now, intelligent and brave, because who else could have gotten a company of thirteen dwarves across Middle Earth in one piece?"

Let's have a round of applause for Bilbo Freaking Baggins!
Jubei-Kazuki chapter 1 . 3/16/2013
It's a lovely fic because everyone is safe and Kili and Fili are together .
I really love this !
Thanks for posting :)
Painton chapter 1 . 3/15/2013
Good writing, and good suspense building while Kili and Ori wait for news of their brothers.
BM originally chapter 1 . 3/15/2013
first off-yeah! everyone survives! Not just Fili or Kili or the two of them but we still lose Thorin, or hte rare Thorin lives but Fili and Kili perish, but all 3 of the make it through! Not unscathed, but hey, as long as they are breathing and will eventually, heal, I'll take what I can get! Besides, it was a horrible battle where there were few that didn't have injuries...

This was a interesting take on the idea and I did like the ending, though I kind of hope you have a plan for a chapter from Thorin's point of view. It could be interesting! (yeah, I'm begging, but daggonit it, Thorin is my favorite and so few people want to give the poor guy a break! I mean, they either kill him or make him some loony toon or some abusive tyrant... :)

In any case, good job and thanks for sharing it!
sapphireswimming chapter 1 . 3/15/2013

but

But
