Even if the Guardians didn't get genderbent it /could/ still work. Tsu-hime would just terrify them far more effectively and earlier than Tsunayoshi ever managed to. XD

Although trying to imagine canon Reborn, with his personal dictates about treating a Lady, and his training methods, trying to reconcile the two... *cackles* I'd bet on it being easier for everyone to send Lal instead. Or Bianchi. Or something. XD
Unless they get genderbent, too.

But it's more entertaining if only some of the characters are gender-swapped, like some (but maybe not all) of the 10th gen, and a few of the adults /maybe/, while the rest are the same.

The entertainment is how the difference affects their interactions.

Can you imagine how ridiculous a female Hayato attached to a female Tsuna would get with Yamamoto, Hibari, and Mukuro still male? (Ryohei is Onii-san, and therefore a potential ally in defending Tsu-hime's virtue... *giggles*)
Genderbending all the kiddies would swap Takeshi and Kyoko in class-roles. A Big-sister-Ryohei with a little-brother-Kyoko would be rather a bit different what with cultural-gender-roles. Big-sister/Little-sister could probably keep most of their dynamic and personalities, with the addition of arguments over girly-things. xD
I know in America girls get stuck in softball instead of baseball, and I can't see Takeshi being any less ridiculously good male or female, but would she get stuck playing only with the girls on the school teams?
A female Mukuro would be accused of being a slut instead of a pervert if s/he acted the same, which is Not Cool. Would a male Chrome lose his temper over such words, defending his Mukuro-sama? Or get all blushing and flustered being accused of being the sub to a (terrifying) girl? (Mukuro would not be the least bit less terrifying as a girl. Possibly more so. And Chrome would still be adorable and 'protect!'-inducing as a soft-spoken boy.)

I really can't see much changing about Kyoya Hibari male or female (in personality or terror-inducement). Different sources of unwanted Valentine's. Maybe not quite as tall, overall. Regular tributes of fine chocolates in the hopes of quelling a monthly-upswing in terror. XD
Less issue with 'biting to death' other girls- Male-Hibari-san might have done it, but had to worry more about getting flack for it. Or, Kusakabe did. Hibari didn't give a shit. XD
She'd probably still wear pants-more efficient for biting herbivores. Betcha if she did the school dress code will say plenty about the uniforms but nothing about who has to wear which one! :) Or if it does, she might be forced into shorts under her uniform skirt by Kusakabe, because she doesn't care. Or will 'bite' herbivores again if she catches them looking up her skirt while 'biting' them. Depends on if she cares. *ponders* Nope, even if she was unfazed it'd be an excuse to 'bite' them for being perverts. *nodnod* Can't let them form bad habits, or think there's some reward hidden in being punished. XD

Not all that much with Lambo and I-Pin would change, either. They're five. :) Their Ten-Year-Later selves, maybe. (*giggles* Ten-Year-Later male!I-Pin and female!Lambo bearing warning shivers of the terror of the Week From Hell... *cackles*)

If the grown-ups stay as canon, then Bianchi would get a much more generally important role, as teacher-of-female-things and (assistant?-)teacher-of-mafiosa. XD Cooking aside, mafiosa need a slightly altered skill-set than mafioso, and Reborn can only teach so much when he is male. Bianchi would have much more first-hand experience to impart, and Reborn would not hesitate to enlist her as an assistant-teacher/tutor when he discovers how many young girls he's stuck dealing with for the next few years. XD

Getting a canon-Shamal to show up would be far less of an argument, though a female-Gokudera bitching out canon-Shamal still as a student-teacher relationship, dysfunctional as they all are, would be even more amusing. *giggles* Shamal wouldn't treat Hayato like he does most women, and would attempt to cover his fondness by insulting her and insisting she's too much a tomboy and not enough a lady for his tastes and that's why he never hit on her (aside from her being way too young before). And Hayato would lambast him as a pervert and try to blow him up, threatening to castrate him if she caught him groping ''Juu-hime''.

I wonder if Nana would care that a male tutor was sleeping in her daughter's room, when said tutor appears to be two years old? Or would she let canon!I-Pin/female!Lambo/Female!Fuuta stay with Tsuna and make the others share the spare room? Keep the boys and girls apart?
(I'm fairly sure half the reason Reborn set up in Tsuna's room originally was for security- His student hadn't learnt anywhere near enough to detect an assassin yet. Part of the rest of his reasons would be because he anticipated more houseguests and to observe Tsuna at any moment.)

How many rooms does the Sawada Household have, anyway? Letting a lone teenage-boy live alone is one thing, but most people would be more hesitant about a teenage-girl living alone in who-knows-what-kind-of-neighborhood-Gokudera-could-afford? I could easily see the others objecting and dragging her home with them- either Tsuna's house if there's room, or Takeshi's (mostly if Takeshi is also a girl) or the Sasegawa's (depending on how much space they have and when the others found out where Hayato was living, alone).
(And I can see the way to get their stubborn Storm to stop objecting would be Bianchi attempting/threatening to move in with her beloved-little-sister for her protection. :) Even when they like each other that's probably a terrible idea with only the two of them in one small apartment.)

I can't decide if canon!Xanxus getting beat by a girl!Tsuna would be more or less wicked than seeing how terrifying a girl!Xanxus would be.

On the one hand, keeping the Varia as canon would emphasize the Girls Kick Ass, Boys Don't As Much As They Think They Do motif. On the other, a female Squalo wouldn't have to bitch about being mistaken for a girl because hair, and a female Xanxus could be both more terrifying and more awesome and more, um, sympathetic? (Not necessarily Xanxus-sympathetic-to-someone-elses-issues, more Xanxus-is-a-character-we-sympathize-with.)
Seriously, the scars on a badass guy are kind of awesome, badass, sexy even. On a badass woman? Even if they're still badass and impressive, it's a whole 'nother big can of shit-you-screwed-up to slap on Noveno when it's his adoptive-/daughter/.

Oh! oh! Does Xanxus remember his grandma Ottava? Male or Female it'd be kind of awesome if he did and recognized the echoes in Tsuna. XD
A female Xanxus would probably be inspired to be like his nonna-Ottava, and became a badass mafiosa thusly. A male Xanxus would never ever consider mafiosa to be less than mafioso. Ever. He knows how deadly and awesome they can be. XD
Plus if Xanxus is still male, it'd be completely understandable why his nonna chose to help Tsu-chan instead of him- she needs the help and role model more, because there are plenty of awesome men around Xanxus (and she wouldn't have expected her son to screw up like that. Not telling about adoption /especially/ in a setting where bloodlines are so important is asking for a bad reaction later on).

I don't like the Idea of having a genderbend guardians, there would be no romance... But having a genderbent Chrome is interesting.
If Tsuna prefers not to rely on them then, why not have the guardians try and try until Tsuna trust them (and if possible fall in love in the process)?
