Wow, Starry...This is a great story. So many things I really liked-Jane's two-word response to Lisbon's initial line crossing, the exploration of her anxiety (that was just so well described and, wonderfully in character, notwithstanding the intrinsic bravery of the character. There's something quite authentic in the notion that even when the most self-sacrificing among us obtains their heart's desire-particularly, one so long denied-that its potential loss becomes "unimaginable". The notion that while Lisbon might have contemplated the difficulty of mourning Jane in the abstract prior to their involvement followed by the shift to dread over the loss of something that has become so very much more tangible was starkly credible. It almost makes my little shipper-heart wary that Canon Lisbon's fear of flying-even without the same evidence of potential loss that you've explored here-might have more weight than I previously considered. Hopefully, Canon Jane could be relied upon to persuade her to let him ease the way. Your stories so often set me to thinking.
