Loved the 1 st chapter!
Cairistona chapter 2 . 6/13/2013
Wonderful! I loved this! So well done!

I loved the little detail that “Very Bad Week” had capital letters in Kirk’s head. And I loved how you put in the details of the bar scene. The movie just pops us in at that moment with no background, and I liked how you filled it in. Also, this little tidbit: “(Torrell's expression, when he catches it, doesn't hold alarm so much as exasperation. Again, really? It seems to say. Jim's proud that he's finally desensitised the guy.)” was a great touch.

McCoy on Jim’s birthday was endearing, and I liked how you wrote that part especially. The part about him being captain, I loved how you said he laughed out loud after the pain had dulled.

I adored Kirk at twenty-eight, and Spock and McCoy there. This bit of banter was my favorite:
"You can thank Spock for that."
"Think I'll pass. Sit up, kid, so I can make sure your lungs are still working."
"You really only need one lung," Jim says…

And I liked this little detail: (The Telronians have warp capabilities, but it seems they didn't feel the need to bring their advanced technology into play in their decor.) It made me chuckle. :)
I was SO happy that he got to see Sam again! That was heart-warming, And I loved Spock at that part, too. (And that bit about Kirk telling Spock about Sam while he was hyped up on painkillers was funny but touching).

Spock and the Christmas sweater was so comical, as was the mere thought of Chekov, Kirk, and Scotty singing and harmonizing “atrociously.”

So, the first chapter was wrenching and heart-breaking, and the second was all heart-warming and delightful. Very nicely done! X)

Oh I liked this second part so much. It compensated for all the misery Jim suffered before. Now he has a true family 3
Aashlee Elizabeth chapter 2 . 5/31/2013
This was nice, and it was deep (especially for a series of short episodes) in exploring formative events in Kirk's life. I like that, despite Kirk's usual brashness, he is somewhat surprised at where his life has brought him. I like the acknowledgment of Winona's own trauma and the affects and effects it had on her sons' lives. I think she was running away from her own life in many ways; her peripheral story from Jim's POV was interesting as well. I think his forgiveness is well-timed. I don't think he would have or could have forgiven Winona if he, himself, had not experienced battle first-hand.

I liked the descriptive writing. I liked the pacing and choice of episodes. I liked the thought behind it.

Thank you for a wonderful read! (*two thumbs up*)

Nicely done! The ending was fantastic. It brought a smile to my face.
Cairistona chapter 1 . 5/31/2013
D’ahhhh! This is SO amazing! I nearly cried! (And I don’t usually cry over stories or movies. I did cry when George Kirk died, though. Wah!)

Anyways, as I was saying. This is SO amazing! And so, so touching. The way you wrote Winona’s grief was just spectacular and quite wrenching. Beautiful work. And Sammy… My heart broke into a million pieces!

I loved how you wrote this, showing little snippets from certain years. The Jimmy at five part was really touching and sad and sweet, but the little bit of irony was funny, -that he’s going to grow up and love kissing. Also, the friendlessness was so heart-breaking, but it seems like it would fit perfectly. And Sam’s apology… d’awwww!

Six years old and bored at school. Spot on. :) I love the little details on that… and everything.

Agihhhh! Frank. Very bad person. You know, I never really thought about him much, but what you construed from his lines in the movie is perfect. It fits exactly. I used to dislike him, but now I hate him. Poor, poor Sammy. And Sammy left! *starts to tear up* And then poor Jim. D:

I love how you worked the Corvette into the story, too. That was perfect and wrenching. The whole thing was perfect and wrenching. Amazing work here, Sparky D., as usual!
