I am honestly embarrassed by my previous review, weaving in the events of a new movie into a world so different was always going to result in some plot conveniences being required, I apologize wholeheartedly.

In reading this story a second time (despite the negative review the story is good enough that I chose to read it again) I now understand why I started to dislike the story when I left it, I didn't understand when I first read the story and so I'm posting now.

The problem I have is the character of Suprises.

The point I realised this was in

C141 Her ascension to Alpha is based on the Worf effect, normally a change or introduction used for villainous characters (Where A new character or threat is introduced as strong, and beyond the capability of the other characters, and then shows them being soundly defeated by another character, to demonstrate the immense power of that character). And almost Deus Ex-Machina (its not she is not external to the characters and their choices throughout the story. Or from a character with small or non-existent influence on the plot until that point.)

C139-C140 Additionally the threat is a combination of Diabolus ex Machina AND Diavolus ex Nihilo,
To do this the series of events is saddening when you list them
1. All get past a Red death blocking the single entrance to the cave.
2. Do not use Alpha power used on any of them because they "didn't get a chance", yet a first time user (who doesn't have hundreds of years of experience) can affect hundreds of dragons on first use with in the time it takes to say just one word.
3. Have the alpha's who refuse to use mind control send out a preemptive attack with mind control
4 This attack hurts 27 dragons yet after this attack in C143 Then the entire nest are willing to join a nest with an Alpha power using Red death before the speech? Their lives was defined by the brutal red death from their past (for at least 8 human generations 200 years) yet they would choose to potentially return to it?

Competency/Character
Her complete lack of competency is unpunished, her lack of she is so incompetent that the smallest infraction is impossible for her to solve without her crutch shown, even threatening her own mother!

The lack of complete lack of patience shown and the speed of resorting to threats regardless of who it is has been more disturbing than half of the villains.

In summary (Her character traits and a description of them)

Alpha Dragon power: Unearned power that is achieved by use of a writing technique reserved for new characters and villains. To defeat a threat that is BOTH a DiabolusExMachina and DiabolusExNihilo.

Incompetency as Leader: Lacking Patience, which means the use of Alpha power and lack of respect causes threats to be used when Patience ends, more established as a tyrant than the pair of red deaths.

Immaturity: taken away from berk to stop causing disasters in C82 and retains her childish character traits from then.

Impatience: Willing to threaten her own mother before asking what is happening.
Chapter 73 interruption

Lack of respect: Willing to threaten her own mother before asking what is happening. Chapter 70 outburst Doesn't learn her lesson from this, but her "learning" this lesson is why she is thought to deserve an adult name

"Full of surprises": These are normally plot contrivances/conveniences

Alpha Status: Unearned Gift due to a Deus Ex Machina power.

Red deaths, not green. At the beginning of this chapter

in the story of httyd johan would have been dead by this point if you don't know watch "dream works dragons race to the edge" its about 7 seasons

He is still so young but how the story path is going its making him sound like a grandpa (yes i know that TECHNICALLY he is but still he is young for a dragon lol)

I am so surprised and proud of you. Even if I don't know you, you wrote a book with 171 CHAPTERS! LIKE WHAT? And with an ingenious plot if I do say so myself. Your writing is great as well. This book is absolutely beautiful and far surpasses my standards.

I'm posting this review BEFORE I start reading this fic. 466k words is a lot of words. This might take me awhile to read, but I will review it properly at the end of it all. I hope it's a wild ride.

I just want to say that this story was THE BEST STORY I have ever seen in the HTTYD fandom! I LOVE the Dragon!Hiccup and Dragon!Astrid SO MUCH. I LIVE for Hiccstrid! The parts of the story are so thrilling to read and again, I love how you added Hiccstrid! To be honest, if there was no Dragon!Astrid, than I might not have come because there would be no Hiccstrid, and she’s also MY FAVORITE CHARACTER, but there was Hiccstrid and Astrid was included and not left out! I love how you portrayed the battle with the Mother between all the nightfuries and not just Toothless, or just Hiccup, you included all of them and i love that too! I love how you add everything from romance, to friendship, to parent and child relationships, because it gives us a lot to squeal about ! I have reread this entire story thoroughly about three times and I’m still in love with it! I have only one request for this amazing story, PLEASE MORE HICCSTRID. There are no doubt Hiccstrid fans reading including me and i would really love for that! Thank you, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for this wonderful fic! I love it all and I will be patient for what ever comes and continue loving it until I DIE.

Nice ending to this small arc. I liked the idea of gold bombs
