Guest chapter 18 . 1/2 I really liked the story but at this point I couldn’t continue as everything is becoming Beckett centric irrespective of her selfish decisions, she’s getting away with everything. Feels like Beckett is the only one in the relationship and Castle is just an afterthought. I understand that the story is from Beckett’s POV but the entire reason why she left DC was to spend time with her family which she doesn’t. Shows how self-indulgent she is. I wondered if that would change but till now it hasn’t so would have to discontinue reading it. I really liked the premise and enjoyed the earlier chapters but cannot stomach Beckett & her selfishness anymore. Will try some of your other works. You’re a good writer though :) |

Pres. Participle chapter 1 . 2/22/2015 (Generally, words ending in '-ing') Here's some unsolicited advice for you and others on something that derailed Ch 1 for me. You used the common Beckett-ism, "you're staring, Castle" but you messed it up. Stare - staring - staring contest - "Castle, you're staring" Star - starring - starring role - "Martha is starring in a new off-off-off-Broadway play" Here's an easy way to remember: When one of the possible words ends in X and the other ends in Xe, the one ending in X becomes XXing while the one ending in Xe becomes Xing. If you see XXing, the root word is the one ending with X. In your case, I knew you meant 'stare' but you WROTE a form of 'star'. Often the two results SEEM counterintuitive and many people sight-read the -ing form incorrectly anyway. Generally (for single syllable words): End in consonant, double the consonant. Ends with e, drop the e, add -ing. There are other rules: fixing/enjoying/snowing (W, X, Y), happening/entering (don't create a double consonant - especially a SECOND pair - unnecessarily), lying (words ending in 'ie'), UK/US differences (travelling/traveling), deferring/offering (ends in 'r' words depend on emphasis of the root word) - note the meaning doesn't change if you botch these last two, it's just not 'right'. In the case of VERY common but VERY similar words (often short words) you have to be aware of using an unintended word, changing the meaning entirely, by incorrectly deciding whether to add that consonant... |
