Reviews for The Bartowskis Versus the Suburbs
Mike chapter 2 . 10/2
Great chapter, great Job and thank you. I'm still not sure about the neighbors yet
michaelfmx chapter 2 . 10/2
Interesting follow up to your first chapter. We're really getting a very honest appraisal from Sarah about how she's gotten to this point. I'm enjoying hearing about how she's slowly adjusting to 'normal' life while also understanding that she's still dealing with her fears. I like that the memories are slowly coming back also. that always seemed like the most logical way for things to happen, since her memories were suppressed not erased. No magic kiss, just a slow process as she allows herself to trust in Chuck and, maybe more importantly, trust in her feelings as she gets comfortable, something spy Sarah would never allow. All this to say that the scenario you've created in these first couple of chapters feel very...realistic.

I have to say that I've had a good laugh at the way Chuck and Sarah have dealt with these neighbours. From the way they have openly kind of made fun of the flirting neighbours to how seemingly comfortable Sarah felt with Julie. Seems that Sarah felt an almost instant comfort level with her. And the laugh they shared at Chuck's expense was very fitting.

Really enjoying this story so far. It's slower paced and very comfortable, although I imagine that things might pick up at some point. Great job.
Baby Huey chapter 2 . 10/1
I hate home owners associations. They have too much authority. I have heard some horror stories about them when I worked at Lowe’s. there was one customer who built a very nice playground in his back yard. A neighbor complained that it was an eyesore and he was forced to tear it down.
PurpleAffair chapter 2 . 9/29
Wowza! I was so excited to visit the suburbs again! A happy bubble has settled itself into my chest.

The feet thing was disturbing and funny. I laughed with a grimace. Such a male thing to do, also displays the kid in Chuck to do things to tease Sarah.

Did Chuck wear his green converse because he was doing yard work? It seems like a nerdy thing he’d do.

“My eyes were bigger than my arms” is such a great line! Never seen it before but I’ve definitely used “my eyes bigger than my stomach” and it translated wonderfully plus it’s a fresh new take on the phrase.

The entire /we decided/ to put the garden in the front conversation was so domestic. Not quite a
full on banter but enough back and forth to feel the amused exasperation. Also special mention to “you have the math brain” and “you’re way more of an artist” therefore you should do it. Relatable, very relatable lmao.

My heart squeezed when I read Chuck’s thoughts on putting up a white picket fence for Sarah. Because he thought it would make her happy and feel like a true home. Little does he know that Sarah unconsciously took a moment to look around their room that she felt is “fully theirs” because they’ve gotten it all together. They just love each other so much and I love them loving each other so much.

Sarah’s past reflection and little memory scene had a lot of different threads of emotions come through. Tinges of early memory loss pain and Sarah’s feelings of competing with herself as if she (and Chuck) saw Sarah as two different people pre/post memory loss. All of that mixed into the warmth and happiness of where Chuck and Sarah in their relationship in Suburbs. Of course there’s always that extra bit of something else that’s unexpectedly written, in this case “poor Casey had been a pretty easy target for her, standing there with his stupid face, teasing her even as he provided an ear like only a really good partner and friend could.” Specifically, thinking Casey’s face was stupid struck me as extra funny after all of the other intense feelings I felt in the fast few paragraphs.

The Monroes certainly seem like they deserve each other. Hitting on their married neighbors, like yes Chuck and Sarah are attractive people but ya don’t do that. Poor Chuck, the kind man he is, being accosted by a bored and unsatisfied wife as Sarah put it. But good on him for his subtle exposure of her come-ons to Sarah. I like the contrast in how Chuck and Sarah reacted to the Monroe’s hitting on their spouse. Chuck, confident in Sarah’s ability to take care of herself, seemed almost amused by it. Sarah, on the other hand was a little more possessive, the body tensing, giving Chuck looks and the dripping sarcasm. Both made me laugh and feel smug.

Sarah and Ellie’s relationship *sigh* it’s so important. The fact that Ellie was there for Sarah after everything when she needed her. Letting Sarah cry over the phone and feel everything without needing to try and console Sarah with words. Their bond and Ellie of course reaching out to her friend/sister because that’s what you do for the people you love.

The dorky shoulder shimmy, Julie Bloom was a breath of fresh neighborly air, and exactly the new acquaintance/neighbor Sarah needs. It’s charming to see Sarah stumble in social situations. She’s not pretending, or being the perfect whatever the situation called for as an (ex)-CIA agent. She wants Julie to like her and she’s much better at interacting with “normal” people than she realizes. Especially when she gave up with any pretenses with Chuck’s missing pants. Once she started rolling with the punches so to speak the conversation with Julie had a lovely flow.

Charles the giant nerd, as uncivilized as yelling across the house or rather down stairs normally is, in this instance it’s certainly better than him going downstairs in his boxers to ask Sarah where his pants were ha! Not that Sarah would complain since she was checking him out with Julie in the house lol!

Kudos on this bright spot you’ve put out into the world! I love this fic as you know and to see it updated with a second chapter has given me so much happiness. I hope this review can give you some back!
michaelfmx chapter 1 . 9/29
Interesting start and it feels like a departure from your current stories, seeing as it’s kind if cannon. Don’t know if I’ve read a post finale story that has them in this situation, at least not recently, so I’m intrigued about where this story will go. Will it be pure and complete fluff, or will some aspect of their past lives creep into it, causing them some stress. I’m looking forward to finding out.
Charahfsn chapter 2 . 9/27
Loving this story. Its just so normal in setting that its weird to see Sarah in those situations. Great call back on the "measuring for curtains" comment from Casey
tiggerhk chapter 2 . 9/27
Sarah and Chuck settling into suburb is a great take from how Sarah seemed to miss the suburb life in canon. I take how you describe Sarah's emotion and thoughts even though she has not recover her memory. Will they stay away from the spy life? Look forward to the next instalment.
wilf21 chapter 2 . 9/26
A perfect continuation with its symmetry between the 'neighbourly' husband and wife and the contrast with the more genuine Julie.
Linda chapter 1 . 9/26
I’ve enjoyed everything you’ve written and look forward to whatever you write. You keep the characters and the show alive. Keep up the great work and thank you.
Richard76310 chapter 2 . 9/25
New friend for Sarah. One who’s not hitting on Chuck. This seems a fun story for you. Writing what you want them to be now. Your version. What they deserve. Hope The Awesomes move back. You mentioned Alex so. Morgan and Casey will be here? Emma and Molly. Pre teen Molly, know it all, adults are stupid, I have to teach you Molly? Fun story please keep writing.
Richard76310 chapter 1 . 9/25
Where do you start to review a story that makes you smile and go good for you guys you deserve it and the couples fictional. Sarah while not all of her memories haven’t returned she’s adjusted to it even thriving. Hope you are well. Thanks for writing.
fezzywhigg chapter 2 . 9/26
I enjoyed the Bartowski’s getting more acquainted with the neighbors. A nice one, not the Monroe woman. I noticed that Chuck and Sarah didn’t discuss the possibility of a HOA. They need to be careful...those things can be vicious.
ReaderNotAWriter85 chapter 2 . 9/25

gbad chapter 2 . 9/25
A very good "continuation" story of one of the best shows to ever air.
Thank you.
Looking forward to the next chapter.
jwatkins chapter 2 . 9/25
So absolutely wonderful. Settling into "normal" life and all that goes with it. I laughed so much. I've been in some of these situations, especially with neighbors, so it definitely struck a cord. Such a beautiful exploration into their new life together and the struggles they overcame to get there. Thank you so much for sharing this. You prove, yet again, what a marvelous writer you are.
