Reviews for The City of Mages
CarrionFlock chapter 15 . 11/26/2019
As far as Battle scenes go this was fairly good. You seem to have a very clear idea of what happens and the action itself both makes sense and is well-thought. When it comes to describing that action however there is some room for improvement: there are some lagoons in the continuities of both Gah-Ei and Odahviing. There were a couple of moments, specially at the end, when Gah-Ei killed that last enemy with his sword that I didn’t understand wether he was doing that from Odahviing’s back or that he had jumped onto the other dragon as well. On moments like that where characters perform a creative or complex maneuver perhaps it would be good to use as much detail as possible while leaving other simpler and repetitive parts to be more broadly described from an emotional or subjective point of view. A good reference for this would be R.A. Salvatore, I’ve always found his fight scenes to be among the best I’ve read.
Keep up the amazing work! I’m really hooked to your story!

Great fanfic!
Beloved Daughter chapter 15 . 2/14/2019
Interesting spin on the 'bringing one character to the world'. I can only hope you will update this story at some point.
Guest chapter 11 . 1/28/2019
"I also can't believe that there are no drinks in Skyrim that are noto alcoholic or drugs. Everything is either mead, beer, wine, or some type of Skoom. Don't they have anything else?"

This is a realistic portrayal of medieval societies.

For most of human history alcohol was extremely common, because it would kill bacteria, making water safe to drink that might not otherwise be. - Remember, water filters didn't use to be a thing, and since humans tended to live near water sources, going to get a drink out of the river might mean drinking the feces of the guy who lives upstream and dying of dysentery.

They likely do have other things to drink, but the most common by far would be water, which people would just grab out of the streams and such rather than storing it long term. (Holds should realistically have large water reserves to withstand sieges though).

Plus people of Tamriel are downing potions like crazy, which would have to fill some of that void. Even if they taste bad.

"Seeing no alternative, they decided to set up camp and sleep under the alien stars and moon for the night."

This line made me think. Halkeginia has TWO moons. So shouldn't the people of Skyrim have realized they were in a different world on the first day when they saw an entirely new moon in the sky?

SoaringEagle13 chapter 15 . 6/25/2018
Aside from some grammatical and narrative issues, this was an interesting read. A shame that this fic is dead.

ZE Bri-0n chapter 11 . 1/2/2018
Hmm. I admit, I feel like this is a mistake, narratively speaking. There was a lot of build up for commoners learning Tamrielic magic, the social and political changes that that was going to cause. I just feel like you devoted too much time into that subplot to just drop it like that.
Also, without it, this is basically a whole other story. It's... disappointing that lack that element.
Guest chapter 12 . 7/27/2017
It's been a while since I've read the LNs, but the Pope wasn't really a bad guy. The crusades to retake the holy land was just an excuse to move the Halkegenians elsewhere before the windstone crisis destroyed their continent.

Regarding Wardes, I don't think he planned on taking the holy land. He just wanted to see if anything was there and vindicate his mother. He was even planning on joining the official crusades before the Pope stepped in.

Alex Ultra chapter 14 . 7/17/2017
On the subject of staves, there is a randomized encounter with a farm boy who tried to join the college, but was turned away at the door because 'Its the staff that has magic, not you.' and he failed the entrance exam; he gives the dragonborn the staff saying it doesn't work anymore, which is weird considering it has full charges...

El Rey chapter 15 . 3/21/2017
I keep coming back to this story, and I keep mourning the abrupt and unsatisfying cutoff. ¶

Rereading it now, I get the sense that there was no clear direction or planning. It's a shame. The writing was pretty good; the characters, more than just cardboard cutouts; and the situations, believable and appropriately tense. ¶

While I don't expect to see this continued, I hope another author can be inspired by this, 'cause I don't think I've seen a comparable ZnT TES story yet.
