Great story. You really brought Diomeda to life as a woman who feels unrequited love for Achilles.

The story of the capture of Lesbos was really good and yup gave a sense of how long and complex the war really was. And you did well in showing that Diomeda's slavery was possibly not an worse that having stayed in her family. And indeed, depending on what husband her family may have chosen for her, she may even be better off with Achilles. It makes us think how Helen's life with Menelaus may have been and why she was so reluctant to leave Paris.

It just shows that we cannot impose our modern concepts of slavery and freedom on the Ancient Greek world. Then most women were regarded as second class citizens and probably had little choice or freedom in life.

But the Briseis arrives and Diomeda sees her position as Achille's favourite usurped. Then when Briseis is taken away, she is given one last time with him, even though he thinks of another.

It is a tragic story in the end. And it makes me wonder what happened to her when Achilles dies. Does she die of a broken heart? Is she taken against her will be another? Or does she find so be sort of peace after his death, either alone or with another? I suppose that is another story.
