Reviews for Who Wants to Date a Crawley Sister?
Tybil Branson chapter 7 . 6/10
I thank you for “was your lip cut?” T-“my lip?” Dr.C-“there seems to be a great deal of red smudged on it.” Thomas suddenly began to have a coughing fit. I’m dead
PaleMagnolia chapter 1 . 11/11/2018
I have just discovered this story and I have to say, this chapter is the funniest, cleverest, best written thing I have read in a long while! Can't wait to read the rest and the "Who wants to marry a Crawley Sister" sequel!
Fortuitous-occurencess chapter 8 . 9/5/2016
Aww I adored this fic! I started reading for Sybil and Tom (who were adorable) then fell in love with how you depicted Matthew and Mary, before becoming a lot more invested in Edith and Anthony than I ever was whilst watching them on the show. So enjoyable to read, one of my favourite STEAMM fanfics!
scathach124 chapter 8 . 8/24/2016
Okay, so you had Edith and Mary get *into bed* with their men, but not Sybil? Well, it's probably for the best, considering Tom was already injured ;) Either way, Sybil's last line was absolutely hilarious!

So now all the STEAMM couples are (un)officially together! Now I just have the sequel to read – I'm so excited! (Hopefully Larry Grey will have learnt his lesson by then) This had to be one of the most fun modern AU's I've read, and every ship was written perfectly. Sybil and Tom getting along so well and having a real wild night was a perfect plot for them. With Edith and Anthony, it moved along quite quickly but seemed romantic enough to be believable. And even though you put Mary and Matthew through So. Much. Angst. I love every minute they came to terms with their hearts.

And now they can all get married! WOOHOO! :D
scathach124 chapter 7 . 8/24/2016
I didn't think Edith and Anthony could get any cuter than they were already in this fic ... but now they are! That was seriously some very sweet post-sex talk –and despite there being no actual smut, I'm sure Edith really did have a grand time ;) . So is this the start of a real relationship, with the next date being to the concert?

Pfft haha ... I honestly thought that maybe you had made Edna a legitimate nurse, but once she asked for Tom to lift up his shirt ... yeah, nothing changes with her, does it? Of course Robert blames Tom first without getting his facts straight, though thank god Sybil's always there to set her father straight.
And of all the places for them to have their first kiss ... luckily it was Thomas who saw them and not Dr Clarkson ... except for the lipstick smudge! So sweet of Sybil to take Tom home then, and if any two people could fall in love so quickly, it's definitely those two.

oh oH OH ... Matthew WAS going to propose to her! Only he didn't get a chance because Mary stormed off! Oh my goodness! You idiots, both of you ...

Mary and Matthew's reconciliation in the hotel room was absolutely brilliant, and I loved how it was Mary who said Matthew's line from the show. It was so sweet how they both admitted they were idiots in the past, but that's not going to stop them from moving forward and how both just really want to be together because they're both so happy when they're with each other. And it makes so much sense that, while Mary is happy working for the foundation, she's even happier with Matthew by her side.

YES YES YES YES MY DARLING IDIOTS! GET MARRIED! *weeps with happiness even though I knew that would happen*

HAHAHAHAHA oh my goodness... Sybil catching Edith and Anthony in bed – this really is the wildest night ever!
scathach124 chapter 6 . 8/22/2016
Oh my ... that conversation in Matthew's car just hit me in the feels all over again! Matthew admits he was never really happy even when he was enjoying his work, and Mary realizes she wasn't happy either, just that she got used to not being around Matthew. Why can't they see that they'll truly be happy together!?

Granny?! What's she doing here? Did she have this all planned?

I wonder if this is the first time Sir Anthony's been in love, or at least the first time in a long while. He's definitely baffled to enjoy Edith's kiss and even more that she *wants* him. And then ... edith leading Anthony to the upstairs, oh wow ... well, that certainly escalated quickly! But so sweet how Edith assures Anthony that he will not disappoint. Hehehehe ... do I sense bedroom times in the next chapter?

Full on pub 'battle' ... I can certainly see that going on between Tom and Larry (and then Thomas jumping right in, lol). My goodness, Sybil and Tom are having one wild night (not in the sense of what might happen w/ Edith and Anthony :\ ) and now Tom might have to go to hospital! I admit, I laughed when Larry Grey was having a bit of a Draco Malfoy moment with the 'my father will hear about this!' rant! But Sybil and Tom better get that kiss at some point ... can't believe *you* are taking this long to make them kiss!

As always, Violet knows what's really going on. The conversation between her and Mary, and Mary's revelation, was so wonderfully written. Now if Mary will actually listen to her heart and go find Matthew!
scathach124 chapter 5 . 8/22/2016
AAAAAHHHHH! encompasses all of my emotions during this chapter (and tbh during this entire fic!)

The pub scene was absolutely amazing, and it seems like such a fun, cozy place (I remember the pub I went to in London – can't remember the name, but it also had amazing bangers and mash!). I loved Gwen and Thomas making an appearance (both of them asking if Tom has a brother lol) – didn't like that asshat Larry showing up quite as much :P If only he didn't show up, then maybe Sybil and Tom *could* take a walk in the park and *maybe* kiss? Tom better be able to fight Larry off!

Omg Edith kissed Anthony! But even cuter was them dancing! Such a wonderful setting in Edith's flat with an old-timey phonograph playing old-timey music. Oh, I'm so afraid you're going to pull a fast one and have something bad happen to them in the next chapter (don't you even dare)!

The backstory of Mary and Matthew's previous relationship got me right in the feels ... I think that Mary really does want to get back together with Matthew, but she was so afraid that he didn't feel the same about her, and now she feels kind of betrayed. I can't imagine what's going to go down while they're talking in the next ten minutes ... hopefully a make-up kiss? Probably too good to be true :(
scathach124 chapter 4 . 8/9/2016
LOL ... I couldn't help but laugh as Anthony's awkwardness at being brought to Edith's house. (understandably he'd be like that since he's an older man and a politician with a pretty young woman) and then he's still flustered because Edith acts so sweet with him. I love how she's sort of 'all things vintage' with the phonograph and her 1920s dress, and I found it so nice how she prepares the indoor picnic. Dear God, why are they so cute together? Wonder what will follow ...

Oh, that bastard Larry Grey here to ruin literally every dinner he can (there's a recurring theme there). But I was just like "Oh you go girl!" at Sybil when she flung the salmon plate at his face – that must have been very satisfying to write! But now where are *they* going? To a pub for some bangers and mach ... or maybe to Sybil's house? ;)

Oh my God ... Matthew's confession absolutely *got me*. But I feel so sorry for Mary as well because she's going to feel like the one who was really in the wrong now by not accepting his love, and of course believing for all this time that Matthew and Lavinia were a thing! And it's like a bombshell for her to hear that he has always loved her. I know you're a primary Sybil/Tom shipper, but you write Mary's emotions so well!

AAAHHHHHHH is certainly the right emotion for everything here, but THE KISS AT THE END! or near kiss, I dunno BUT THE KISS! oh, my shipper heart!
scathach124 chapter 3 . 8/6/2016
Sybil and Tom are on the most perfect first date and I love it so much. Of course, poor Tom doesn't feel like he belongs in a fancy restaurant, sitting across from a lady, but lucky for him Sybil's not hoity-toity or anything. I imagine for a future date she'd bring him to her favourite pub to share in some bangers and mash. And of course, the suffragette restaurant fits in so perfectly. It already sounds like the best evening of either of their lives ... wonder how it'll end ;)

Arrgh ... yes, I was expecting angst from Mary and Matthew, but I really want to skip to the part where they kiss and make up! Poor Matthew, seeing Mary act so different and cold. But I found it really hilarious to read how Violet got on a plane to New York just to tell Matthew that Mary was still in love! (Frankly, I do that too if I was Violet). And when he starts to chink away at her coldness ... and then he reveals he left the firm for his real dream and I'm just like AHHHHHH! Why must you do this do me!?

I have to admit, I did a little 'aww' when Anthony explained why he bid so much on Edith. He's such a sweetheart, and you write him so well here. ... But all those stupid reporters! (although that was clever how one dressed up like a waiter). If I were the maitre d' I would beat them off with a crowbar. But what does Edith have up her sleeve? Hmmm O_o You have made me *very* curious.

Jfc ... Larry Grey? What's he doing here? The man can't learn to give up, can he? Oh no, now what does *he* have in store for Tom and Sybil? I hope nothing too bad ... but of course I'm sure Sybil and Tom will come out on top, as they always do in the face of adversity (or in the faces of semi-evil arseholes).
scathach124 chapter 2 . 7/24/2016
I absolutely *love* Crawley sister interactions, and the one in the beginning here was perfect – all the talk about their soulmates (*ahem* dates) – but poor Mary! Oh, she knows she still loves Matthew, but what the heck happened between them all those years ago. Hopefully a date *will* provide them with some closure (or a new beginning ... hehehe).

Sybil and Tom meeting was so sweet. I loved your exposition about how he thinks himself so below Sybil's standards, but he starts to see how there's much more to her ... and I bet soon he's going to find out so much more that he likes about her. Yep, he's definitely doomed!

I love how Edith comes in the 1920's dress (is is supposed to be similar to the one she wore on the date with Gregson in 4.1?) and Anthony is absolutely dazzled by her. And also how he gets all flustered just by her saying that she was excited for the evening. Tbh, I think I'm most excited to see how this date goes – as long as it's not angsty like *some* pairing I know.

Ohhhhh boy ... yep, Granny deliberately chosen *that* particular restaurant for Mary and Matthew to meet again. She ships them about as hard as I do. And despite knowing how everything turns out as implied by the sequel, I can only assume that there is going to be plenty of unspoken thoughts and memories of heartbreak between them.

I already love this fic so much, and I'm only on chapter two! Your modern AU writing is fantastic and fun, as always!
scathach124 chapter 1 . 7/22/2016
So I'm thinking it's about time that I started on this series, and I have a feeling it's going to be awesome! (and every time I read the title I hear that game-show intro-voice saying it :P ) And to answer the question: *I* would totally date any of them :)

Everything fits so well with Tom being a political journalist, Anthony a politician, and Matthew being his usual angsty self (because no fic is complete without some angsty Matthew). Poor Edith, as usual doubting herself when she's with her sisters (shut up Edith, you're gorgeous). And of course Sybil wouldn't let the auction go as smoothly as I imagine her grandmother would like it to go.

The actual bidding, of course, was absolutely hilarious. Pamuk and Matthew engaged in what can only be described as a bidding duel, Anthony coming to Edith's rescue, and Sybil practically ending her own bid just so Larry wouldn't get her. And now Mary and Matthew are going to have to face the past ... what exactly happened between them that made Matthew leave the country for five years *glares at the two of them for being such idiots*

The best line had to be "I will not give up my Irishman!" but I also loved Anthony being described as Alan Rickman meets Colin Firth. Your writing, as usual, is sublime, and I can't wait to see how everything plays out with the dates, regardless of how I know everything turns out given the sequel :)
eliphya chapter 8 . 6/19/2016
This was a very nice read. Nothing fancy and dramatic (except the M/M bit of course) but sweet nevertheless.

Even though we all knew who the people were that would win the auction it was still fun to see how it all came together. And I had to laugh when Sybil argued with Larry while she stood on the stage for everyone to see and hear her.

"I'm the only one who didn't get to shag her date" lol.
emoson666 chapter 8 . 8/3/2015
THAT WAS THE BEST LAST SENTENCE I HAVE EVER READ, SERIOUSLY!

I've been reading this all day, but I regret nothing because this was the best modern AU I haver ever read, hands down.

It was so much fun, since the beginning with Sybil complaining about Granny basically "whoring them out", and Sybil was right, but we all have to admit that this was waaaaaay better than she expected.

I loved how Matthew returned to England with the sole purpose of winning a date with Mary, and even though they had a rough time most of the evening, their date ended way better than anyone expected. AND VIOLET OMG I LOVED HER SO MUCH, SHE IS ALWAYS SO WISE AND WONDERFUL AND I ADORED HER IN THIS STORY!

AND THE WAY THE DATE BETWEEN EDITH AND ANTHONY ENDED WAS AWESOME, GO EDITH! Plus, it was extremely adorable, and when he told her he had bidded all that money because he couldn't let another man take her from him, THAT WAS SO ADORBS! I'm so glad their date ended so amazingly, because they deserve nothing but happiness.

And Tom and Sybil.
I have to admit I was laughing my arse off when he said 501, but well done, Tom, I think we can all say that adding that "one" was the best decision he's ever made.
Their date was incredibly cute since the very beginning, I loved it when they spoke about history and politics, and then told each other their stories about why they pursued journalism and medicine, and can they actually be more perfect?!

But Larry, ugh. I hate him with a passion. That's all I want to say about him cos I would so hate to ruin this review with his presence.

Then when they moved to the pub and Gwen and Thomas were there with them, I LOVED THAT SO MUCH, I LOVE THOMAS AND GWEN SO MUCH AND SEEING THEM AS SYBIL'CLOSE FRIENDS WAS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT THIS STORY! The way Thomas teased Sybil with Tom, that was A

*sigh* I just love this story.

And I certainly hope Sybil got to shag Tom more than once, they both totally deserve it.
kayjay triquetra chapter 7 . 7/11/2015
Having read the latest installment of who wants to marry a Crawley sister, had to come back and read this as just enjoyed it so much (tho did skim the M&M parts this time - sorry!)
Guest chapter 8 . 3/31/2015
Oh my gosh! Hahahaha! The ending was hilarious. I loved the whole story! My eyes went glued to the screen! This is an absolutely fabulous piece of writing, thank you for creating this masterpiece. Usually I don't like modern AU stories but this one is perfect. You have converted me.
