Reviews for Distortions In Time: The Untold Tales
Guest chapter 4 . 12/11/2015
I rather enjoyed these little stories. The second chapter was particularly good. I enjoyed reading more about Kol'la/Loki's acclimation to Asgard and the random bits really show how much you developed everything even if the readers do not always get to see it (in the main story). I loved the mint pudding tale in particular as that is mentioned often in the main story. Yet the discomforts felt were so fun to read. He clearly couldn't just ease into society, he had to go through a learning curve. And it was disheartening as he slowly realized that what seemed a golden salvation become less perfect and more realistic over time. His station was improved from curse, to slave but he still doesn't quite belong. His race once more, is against him and I love the idea that he never manages to fit in perfectly: he is too pale, his constitution weak against the sun, too slender, too obsessed with scholarly and magic pursuits. He remains forever an oddity. A concept that I think everyone is able to relate to. We all seek to fit in, when in reality no one ever quite does. Yet there are some more than others that feel ostracized intensely and sometimes, like in Loki's case it is not unwarranted. I also adore how there is something of Loki in his frost giant brother ( the younger one whose name I cannot spell off the top of my head).

Beautiful InsolentKatt
zippy zany chapter 4 . 1/2/2015
This was really sweet. However I'm looking forward to the actual story and Loki and Thor finally meeting up - maybe? I'm especially looking forward to this Loki meeting the avengers. When is the next update?

Finally, I get to review this! Re read it again and it didn't disappoint the second time round. It's really great that you are doing this whole "untold tales" series, and the drabble form you have written helps make things easier to absorb. The drabble titles are fun too. 21 pages is crazy, how long have you spent writing this! With the start when you realize how Kol'la has never really experienced true radiant sunlight, it just brings to mind how sad his life has been so far, constantly in the the sunburn he gets it's kinda like you can never have too much of a good thing. A random thought, after Kol'la became Loki and hence a prince, did he ever go visit the stable hands? Or the mages guild to find his.. well I wouldn't say friends but perhaps his acquaintances? Anyway, I like that this is more than just culture shock. It's watching Loki learn and immerse himself into a whole new culture; shocking or not, sometimes it's just new or different yet acceptable. I like how Thor shows so much concern and care for Kol'la/Loki, it just brings to mind that connection between them. And with the whole green mint jelly, it was nice of Sif to give her share to Loki as opposed to Volstagg, although it might rub off Loki the wrong way with her saying how he doesn't like a lot of things. And good to know ...Bolditalics... are the voices of the realms. I still get confused though haha. And just a little something I noted in Sun Part 1: "heavy with sweet and dirt", Sweat? Thank you for your invested time on the workings of this alternate world you have created. Huzzah!

So Loki's not the only scholar in the family.

(Can't log in, sooo...)

And THIS WAS ADORABLE CAN I JUST ASDFGHJKL...Byleistr is so flippin' cute I could die. And this does put the Jotun culture into better perspective...

...which makes me wish that, in DiT, you kinda sorta let Loki meet his kinda-ex-family? I mean, come on, reunion (ish) with Helblindi? Just a thought...

Also, as always, awesome work.

Yay finally something about Jotunheim! Miss all our lovable frost giants. The relationship between Helblindi and Byleistr reminds me greatly of Thor and Loki's in the original universe, only in this case Helblindi is a bit more ferocious in protecting his brother against the jeers of others. I loled at the moss conversation. You could easily swap them for Thor and Loki; I guess that's what brothers are like? Am an only child so I have no idea haha. And Farbauti is so much like Frigga haha. Was this your intention? I hope Byleistr and Loki gets to be formally introduced to one another in the future. I am sure they can learn much from each other, and it will be an interesting conversation, talking about scholarly pursuits and thier annoying oaf of an older brother (more in Loki's case anyway haha). And can I just say I love the idea of your untold tales series? I hope you enjoy writing random scenes that don't exactly add to the plot as much as your readers love reading them. Sucker for character development. Looking forward to more in the future!
