I also hate how James Potter was vilified. Like we are talking about Severus Snape, a guy who Supported Voldemort! Even though he 'reformed' he still supported Voldemort for many years. And think about all the horrible things death eaters probably had to do to become death eaters. And you probably had to willingly receive the dark mark. And James Potter sacrificed himself for his family... Gryffindors are known for bravery not loyalty. I feel like Severus Snape probably started the fued with James Potter. Of course many people would say that its cannon so James obviously is evil. But JK left many huge plot holes in the series. Including, The Lord systems, the wizengamot, the ICW, the history of the wizarding world, and many more. I feel like James was NOT a bad guy. Because Lily obviously had a huge idea of what is right or wrong but she chose James Potter even though he is 'Evil' but she didn't chose Snape who is the 'good' guy?

Dude. Severus Snape Was Not In Love With Lily Potter! He was obsessed with her. If you truly love someone you would be happy cause they were happy. You wouldn't try to take away their happiness like how Severus leaked the prophecy to Voldemort to get lily. He was obsessed. If he was in love with her why would he hate her child? Sure he would be jealous but he wouldn't outright abuse Harry. Severus Snape was a Git. He took out his anger and hatred on Harry and Gryffindor. He was obsessed with Lily Potter and not in love.. He even spied on her creepily before they went to Hogwarts.

I'm really enjoying this story so far. I haven't read one where both Sev and Dumbledore are the good guys. Usually its a one or the other situation. Ginny and Harry being friends during first year is also novel. Harry is strange to me in this story but I imagine that's more because it's all pre-Hogwarts and once I get to reading, he'll start to make more sense. Good start!

Finally, Sirius give a half-assed apology which sounds pretty meaningless (like, sorry for almost killing you would have been more to the point). But I guess Snape still has to apologize for being bullied four on one to make Albus happy.

Still, Snape may well have some method to his madness-it makes Albus feel better, which is a good thing when you have a boss that can send you to Azkaban if he pleases, will make Harry feel happy, and this softens up Sirius when the two of them have a little conversation about Dumbledore and his charming manipulative ways.

I'm amazed that Dumbledore considered anything that Snape said important, he sure didn't in canon. But this was a very exciting scene.

And I wish that Snape would get over Lily-she hosed him far worse than just one bad word, but of course he has to feel guilty and Gryffindors never do, no matter what they do.

Go for the rewrite if that's what you feel. The only problem is that authors loose interest in between and ends up in abandoning their stories. I hope you won't do that.
As for pairing, I probably prefer one and only pairing that is Harry/Ginny.

Did you fall in love and marry and spend happily ever after with your first love? Odds are nope; heck odds are nope to anyone you had a crush on, liked or dated in high school. Not that I get a real vote but my 2 sickles worth in pairing is Harry/unknown character (make someone up a neighbor, someone from, heck, Switzerland, Timbuktu or even better yet somehow he ends up with someone that dated Dudley at one point just anyone that isn't an already established person that you can flesh out on your own)
