I'm very not-pro John.
Dean was more of a parent than John was.

FINALLY! A person in this fandom who actually doesn't hate John! I mean, I don't get it... Okay, he might not have been the best father in this entire world, but at least he tried. And he truly loved his boys. What more can you want? He did as he saw best and what he thought as the best interest of his boys' well-being. That counts as pretty darn good in my books!

But really, I liked this. I think it potrays well what might have happened after :) And thank you for writing this!

I don't agree with all choices John Winchester may have made, but I still think he did everything he could to keep the boys save and that he loved them something fiercly. So thank you for this wounderful story...

YAY! This was more true to life than you think. My husband was a lot like John in ways, we've got two boys (that are uncannily like Sam & Dean)so I know all about tough love and the like. It really wasn't out of character for John to let Dean cool his heels in that place and to keep Sam in the dark. Made perfect sense to me. BTW, my oldest is an officer in the Army & engaged and my youngest just graduated as a Doctor so John's ways are pretty much typical. Thanks for this!

The reunion scene between Dean and Sam was great. I also liked the conversation between Dean and his father.
I had wondered what happen after Dean left Sonny's and I like you idea.

I agree with your portrayal of John and I think you did awesome. I come from a family with a sort of tough love policy and I didnt think Johns reaction was all that weird and Im a girl. I think what you wrote is what John was trying to teach Dean, actions have consequences. Amazing story and dont feel too bad about all the John hate out there, people like to make drama where there is none. Its refreshing to see a good story that puts him in a positive light.

I for one, love John and won't write him as anything other than a dad in a tough situation doing the best for his kids. So I appreciate this. Besides, I love flawed characters. No one's perfect.

Thank you! I think the fandom is WAY too hard on John. The man was no saint, but I think anyone who sells his soul to an enemy he has been hunting for over 20 years to save his son really loves his boys. I think most fans forget that John was a tough Marine dad & think he should have been Ward Cleaver. I know for a fact if I had gambled away money left to get food for my lil sis and gotten arrested for shoplifting, I would have had much worse than 'let her rot' So thank you for portraying a 'real' way the situation could have played out.

I love you soooooo much! I know that John cares about Dean and like you I cant watch that episode again. I love your explanation how and why this happened. The line "let him rot in jail" I never believed but in that case could be fine. He was mad and disappointed. To all happen to say things they do not really think. Of course, John checked the place where Dean was staying.
I commented so many time about this episode how I dont believe in bad John and that has to have some explanation for his actions and all I got was a thumb down. Happy to see There are people on John side!

You wrote a well thought out rebuttal, I can't say I am a huge John fan but I am not a john hater either, my problem with the let him rot line is I felt he also had a responsibility in this, Dean would not have needed to play cards at all if John had left the funds to cover his absence. I think he then did not have the right to hold that attitude. But like I said in the beginning you came up with a plausible train of thought and not the arrogant stance.
