This is pretty awesome so far, I have to admit. I like all the twists that you've thrown in, especially Iruka being a Special Jonin, Naruto being missing, and Sasuke being bat-shit crazy.
Granted, the last is pretty much canon but it's true that, without Team 7, Sasuke definitely would have flipped his metaphorical lid far earlier than in canon and I can definitely see Naruto just disappearing. I mean, he successfully and consistently managed to prank Chunin, Jonin, and even the Hokage when he wasn't even a Genin. That says something. And I've always felt that Iruka could be capable of more than just Chunin but he probably just loved teaching at the academy or something, you know?
Also, slowburn. Awesome. I hate it when it's just kinda like, "Oh, look. Two characters that I ship. I'll just throw them into bed with little to no character or relationship development, THAT'll be realistic." Unless it's, like, a one-night stand and they meet again after and then there's development before the romance. But it needs to be well written. Like this, is what I'm trying to get at. This is very well written and I love the development.
Anywho! Awesome stuff. I look forward to reading more and the moment that these two get their heads out of their asses and kiss already .
