Reviews for KINGDOM HEARTS: FATE-BOUNDED SOULS
OrionGold chapter 7 . 12/3/2017
Looking back at this chapter now, I feel as though Kairi would've followed Sora's example of disregarding the World Order's rule of not interfering with a world's affair. I'm going to be blunt here but it is a stupid move on Kairi's part considering the situation between Sayaka and Kyoko is getting worse.

To me, this story might've been better if there had been more canon derailment on Madoka's side of the crossover while still being self-contained in the KH timeline to make it more entertaining. I think it would be a cool bonus if you also add in Kairi's manga characterization for some genuine comedic moments.
Fenrir013 chapter 15 . 12/26/2016
I liked this story.
author2be3 chapter 15 . 6/5/2016
Well that was cute. I enjoyed this very much!
FlightfootKeyseeker chapter 4 . 2/4/2016
Ah, so Yen Sid was a go-between. I'm glad you clarified.
FlightfootKeyseeker chapter 3 . 2/4/2016
Can Riku and Kairi communicate? Riku talks about things that Kairi knows, but that he should not. Is Yen Sid acting as a go-between?
MAGIHERO15 chapter 15 . 8/7/2015
I absolutely love, love, LOVE this story and I hope you would make a sequal to this story that includes them, after knowing their intention about the X-blade and the keyblade war, battling the new organization IIIX, with the final battle being the reborn version of the ultimate witch infused with master Xahanort and the power of all 13 seekers.
XMinerCobra chapter 14 . 3/13/2015
YUP, NEW SHIP, KYOKOXRIKU/RIKO CONFIRMED
StarrySkylar chapter 15 . 1/19/2015
This is probably one of the best crossover fics that I ever read. The only thing I have to complain about is the fact we don't get to see more Organization members, but that's just me being nit picky. Otherwise I loved it.
Trutown chapter 15 . 10/1/2014
I like this story. I REALLY like this story. This is how Kingdom Hearts stories should be.
What I Liked:
Not only does this story focus on Kairi as the protagonist, but she is written totally in character and goes through an arc. It isn’t a big character arc considering how this story is supposed to take place in the Kingdom Hearts timeline, but it is an arc.
This story does the one thing a crossover should always do. In a crossover, no one team or group should be elevated over the other. Neither Kairi nor the girls make the other look bad by comparison. The girls can do things that Kairi can’t and vice versa. They also get along really well and the comradery is very visible by the end.
The writer obviously shows intimate knowledge of the Kingdom Hearts universe and seamlessly integrates Puella Madoka Magica into it. Hearts are important, Namine wants to help people who are hurting, magic is an innate ability in people who have strong hearts (like Madoka), the Incubators obviously lack Hearts due to their lack of emotion, Kairi uses her past experience of saving Sora to save Sayaka, Command Cards make an unexpected return, a Moogle sells things, the Heartless follow the most powerful dark beings around (which the Witches would obviously be in the KH universe), Xehanort wishes for balanced world instead of a world ruled by solely by Darkness, Kairi’s position as a Princes of Heart is treated as something more than just a cheap plot device, and everybody that we want to see come back in Kingdom Hearts III is in the epilogue.
The way that the true Organization XIII is implemented into the story is great. They realize the threat that the Witches present and they don’t ignore it because the Lights are fighting the Witches too. I also like how Master Xehanort shows sympathy for the Magical Girls toward the end. Many people forget that while Master Xehanort needs to be stopped, he is not a complete monster (unlike Xemnas).
Since I own the Puella Madoka Magica soundtrack and every Kingdom Hearts soundtrack, reading this on my iPhone with my headphones in was an absolute joy. I normally don’t approve of authors saying “this is the song you should listen too” since it doesn’t often work and a scene should work without music in a novel by nature, but I don’t mind it here since the scenes are well done without music and the music adds to the experience rather than detracting from it.
Everybody lives (except Kyubey because screw him and his entire race). You see, even though I understand why the series ended the way it did, that ending led to the Rebellion movie, which I did not like at all. This ending not only makes sure that everybody lives, but ensures that the events of Rebellion can never happen.
What I Disliked:
Oddly enough, there was only one issue I had with this story, and that would be the tense in which it is written.
The story is done in present tense. Writing in present tense isn’t a bad thing, it’s just strange. While I understand that writing books in present tense is becoming a thing, I don’t think that it should. Readers don’t notice a novel is written in past tense because they are naturally used to it. Stories have always been told in past tense. Subconsciously, we think of stories as past experiences being told to us because that is how non-fiction stories are told. If it didn’t happen in the past, then we wouldn’t be hearing it. We take this idea and apply it to fiction as well. We assume that the writer is telling us events that have happened previously in their imagination. When most readers encounter a story in present tense, it comes across as jarring. This leads to an adjustment period for the reader where they have to get used to the format of the story when they should be getting involved in the plot and characters.
This also effects how the story can be told. Since the present tense means the narrative can only move at the pace of physical action, time shifts, exposition, and character introspection have to be interwoven into the present when you could stop everything and give more backstory and exposition with past tense. Scope for depth and backstory that would lead to deep and subtle characterization is more limited as a result (Kyubey isn’t explored in this story as much as he was in the show and we don’t get to see how manipulative he really is). We don’t get a sense of the wider implications of what is happening. We don’t get to see how manipulative Kyubey truly is (to the point of manipulating Kyoko to go to her death) because everything we experience is told from Kairi’s present. We don’t get to see Homura’s frustration since the story is confined to the present and her reflection on it can’t really be integrated into the physical action.
Writing in present tense is not bad, but you have to ask yourself what you would gain and lose by doing it to see if it is worth the trouble.
anon chapter 3 . 9/4/2014
great work! You've done a good job managing to preserve the tone of both Kingdom Hearts and PMMM, and of course it's nice to see Kairi actually getting to play an active role.
cutenessfan19 chapter 15 . 9/1/2014
This is easily one of the best crossover fics I've read. Although, it's not perfect, there are some flaws (many small ones, though). One big flaw I can point out is the beginning of the final chapter felt somewhat rushed, but the rest of the chapter made up for it. So, good fic and I hope you do some more good fics in the future. Also, am I the only one who thinks someone could make a fan-series out of this fic? Not saying I would, though.
QuquLemonHead7 chapter 1 . 7/31/2014
I like it the girls are cooperating together now. I don't want any of them to fight.
