Will's loyalty to his adoptive parents is very important. I know that RL adoption stories can turn out badly ... but just as many (if not more) turn out alright.

Just as deeply as Will might be worried about himself being a replacement, I imagine he would resist the idea his own adoptive parents—who raised him, and loved and cared for him—could be replaced. Anything less would be unnatural and show an uncaring streak in his character that I wouldn't care for :)

Will's at an age where an instant connection with his biological parents—whatever their excuses—isn't necessarily a realistic outcome. It's a relationship which I feel would take some time and some healing.

Thanks for this story—it felt real to me.

That was a bittersweet but satisfying ending. Beautifully written. Of course, us older readers know who The Addisons are ie David & Maddie from Moonlighting. Cute. Mulder picked the names obviously. Much better than Laura & Rob Petrie.
