Hokuto developed a love for flowers, and, as with all things she loved, she tried to understand them. Subaru can testify to that point, secondhand knowledge about flowers, their care, and their meanings, have stuck with him. Walking through Tokyo, he makes a habit to see if he can give the meanings for every flower he passes. It reminds him of her, because he voices hammers every fact into him as he says it to himself. Sometimes, he thinks of the flowers he would leave on her grave, if she had one.
Aloe, for grief. Anemone, for unfading love. Carnations (pink), I will never forget you. Cyclamen, resignation and goodbye (the goodbye he never said). Lavender, for devotion (his and hers). Rosemary, for remembrance. Roses (red and darker red) I love you; I mourn you. And countless other splashes of colour that won't ever bring her back to him.
He will leave her flowers, somewhere, somewhen, because that's what she left him. One, single, fragile blossom resting where she should be. It is pressed in some book now, a crumpled azalea that is all he has left of her. Hokuto, Hokuto, beloved Hokuto.
'Take care of yourself for me.' He will, he will, he won't.
'Fragile passion.' A whisper of what shouldn't be, couldn't be, and almost was.
It bothers him that she can be condensed into a flower blossom.
