Title: My Dark Angel

Author: Princess Kanako

Pairing(s): Dark M/OC/Krad, Satoshi/OC, Daisuke/Riku, with the possibility of a few other pairings as the series goes along, but I can't make any promises

Date Submitted: 18/04/15

Disclaimer: I do not own D N Angel or any of its affiliates; they belong to Yukiru Sugisaki

Claimer: I do own Faye, a few plot ideas, and any OCs that pop up along the way.

Genre: Adventure, Romance, Drama, Angst (story of maturation – mental/physical development – of principal character)

Summary: This would be an example. There would be blood. And pain. Both halves of the Black Wings would understand this folly before they died. The same as other men before them, they would die for a human.

Warning: Swearing. Violent thoughts? I dunno.

Writing like this are thoughts. Diary entries are labelled.

Writing like this is Faye's subconscious.

Everything was chaos. The din was deafening. It seemed every person in the place was talking about the display of power. Many now claimed they had believed it all along. Others were still stunned. Most were speculating on how any miko, let alone a human one, could still be alive after a hundred years.

Sojiro and Chiharu were attempting to restore order to the crowd. Chiharu was sure that Amaterasu was behind the gift of arsenic. They could not, however, act without confirmation. If it could be proven that she was responsible, it would be all the evidence the council needed to demand her execution. She knew that those boys would not rest until they had the proof.

Krad watched the security team make their way through the crowd. He frowned when he saw Satoshi pause by the rear entrance to the lodge and slam a hand against the wall in frustration. He then said something to Daisuke and they disappeared into the crowd. A short time later, they reappeared and headed towards Krad, a very angry Yukiko and Yoegoro between them. They stopped before Faye's chair and shoved the pair to their knees. The action was far more demeaning than anything else. Forcing them, practically demon royalty, to kneel before a human.

Faye stared down at the two, keeping her face blank. Was one of them behind the 'gift' of arsenic? Did either of them understand that people could have died? It had been extremely stupid...and extremely dangerous. Sojiro and his regiment of sons had managed to restore some order to the crowd. The noise died down once they were able to see the lord and lady of the Northern house on their knees before the Yōso miko. No one wanted to miss a second.

Daisuke looked down at the pair kneeling in front of him with cool eyes - something Faye found very unsettling from her usually warm-hearted friend. Riku squeezed her hand.

"She took off. You'll have to make do with them," he reported in a tone as cold as his eyes.

Yukiko looked at the woman sitting before her. She had underestimated her. As had her foolish student. She had no doubt that Amaterasu had fled until she could come up with something to combat these new developments. She had orchestrated this, now she would be on her own. Foolish girl. Yukiko needed to concentrate on saving her own skin.

It was clear now that she was indeed a Yōso miko. There was no longer any doubt. The only question that remained was how. Not even a reincarnated descendant could display that amount of power. It was a question she wouldn't bother to ask. They had no right after the way they had treated her. She doubted there would ever be an answer anyway. The pair bowed to her.

"I apologize for my earlier words, my lady," Yoegoro said humbly. "I did not believe you were who you claimed to be. I ask your forgiveness."

She tilted her head.

"So you think what you said would be acceptable otherwise? I am under the protection of my lords. Your words were an insult to them, too."

Krad's golden eyes travelled from the man grovelling before them to land on Faye with suspicion.

"What would those words be, Faye?" he queried.

"I'd like an answer this time," Dark added irritably.

Yukiko stared up in surprise.

"You did not tell them?" she blurted out. Faye didn't spare her a glance, but held Krad's gaze. She had to handle this very carefully.

"No. I did not. They're within their rights to kill your husband for it, too." She threw a filthy look at the Northern lord, before returning her gaze to Krad. "But even his crappy life has value. Besides, I didn't want my party ruined."

Krad was seething. She was refusing to tell him what was said?

"I will have an answer, woman." She reached out and took his hand in hers.

"I know you have the right to kill him. No one here would stop you. I'm asking you not to."

"Give me one good reason," Dark muttered.

Faye released the breath she'd been holding. At least they were listening. But then, so was everyone else in the room.

"I think they're misguided in their hatred of humans. I can't blame them for that when Krad thought the same once. If he can change, so can they. I can ignore a few little insults. Are you saying you can't? Do their words carry that much weight?"

Krad couldn't believe she was dismissing this disrespect. He hissed softly. Faye continued as if she had not heard him.

"If you kill them, then Amaterasu will be the new Northern lady since they have no children. Do you honestly want that?"

Judging from his expression, he hadn't thought of that. After a moment, he squeezed her hand.

"You have given me a reason to let them live. As long as either one is not responsible for the attempt on your life tonight. If one is, then nothing will stop me from shedding blood."

Faye really hoped that the pair were innocent.

"Fine. But if you kill them and make a mess, I'll be pissed."

Krad shook his head at her attempt to diffuse his anger. Under other circumstances it might have worked. He looked down as Dark knelt at Faye's feet to retrieve the box that remained where it had fallen. He stood and handed it over to Hikaru, who had just joined them.

"Can you get anything on the one who prepared this little surprise for our lady?"

The wind demon took the box and inhaled deeply. He handed the box back to Dark and set off in search of the woman who held the answers they required. Faye looked down at the couple. She had forgotten that they were still there.

"Get up, you two."

Krad was quick to intercede.

"No. They will remain where they are."

She was about to argue until she saw the look in his eyes. The suppressed rage, barely, was there for her to see. She knew when to back off and now was one of those times. Hikaru returned with a woman. She was a servant based on her clothes. She took one look at Krad and fell to her knees, crying.

"I'm sorry, my lords. I didn't know. I swear I didn't know."

"Your scent is the strongest on the box. That means you carried it. Where did you get it? Who gave it to you?"

Her eyes flew to her lord.

"You will tell them what you know, girl," Yoegoro snapped. She turned fearful eyes back to the powerful beings before her.

"Amaterasu, my lord," she whispered. Dark turned away from her with clenched fists. Krad's pupils thinned to slits.

"Speak up, woman."

She flinched away from his anger, but repeated her answer so that there was no question as to who was responsible. There were whispers of scandal and murmurs of accusation spreading rapidly through the crowd. Chiharu slipped forward to stand beside Yukiko, who was at last allowed to stand.

"You know that this confirms the accusations against your student. The decision will not be in her favour."

Yukiko nodded wearily.

"I know. She must answer for her actions."

"As must I," Yoegoro muttered. He turned to the human… no, the Yōso miko… to see compassion in her eyes. He was stunned. His wife had belittled her. Her student had tried to kill her. He had insulted her. But still, this human woman had compassion in her eyes for him. He had begun to see why she had been chosen. She would have strong children, and raise them with her values and strengths.

"I sincerely apologize to you, Lady Faye. My actions, my words, were unforgivable. Regardless of who you are, or are not. I see that now. You have shown me compassion and mercy when I deserved none. I will not forget this."

He bowed to her and turned to lead his wife away. Chiharu stopped him.

"The council will convene on Monday morning at 9am for the trial. This will be settled then. If there are any more incidents before then…" The Southern lady looked to the pair that stood on either side of Faye. And the rage that churned in their eyes. "I believe they will be dealt with swiftly and most thoroughly."

The Northern lord and lady continued on their way.

"I understand Chiharu," Yukiko replied.

Faye watched them go. The proud arrogance that had been present before was gone. Yukiko's shoulders were slumped, defeated. Yoegoro's demeanour that of a man who knew he had fallen. She couldn't help but feel sorry for them. Sure he had insulted her, and her boys, and her family. But he apologized.

Krad leaned in to mutter in Dark's ear.

"I think it would be wise if you and Satoshi take charge of the rest of the gifts. They are to be thoroughly screened. I don't want a repeat of what happened tonight. If any are deemed unsafe, then Faye will not touch them."

Dark nodded.

"I'll handle it."

Krad held his hand out to Faye.

"I believe you wanted to go home."

She smiled and took his hand, wanting nothing more at this moment than to have a hot shower and fall into bed.

Amaterasu slammed the door to her bedroom and began removing her clothes. Her plan had backfired, hugely. Instead of showing the weak human for what she was, she had ended up proving the claims that she was a Yōso miko.

"How the hell can she be a Yōso miko? How is it that one lives still?"

She paced angrily. She needed a new plan. Fast. She was supposed to die tonight. She wanted to see that bitch in pain. The kind of pain that she had lived with for centuries. The pain that only comes from losing a loved one. How was she to bring them down now? The trial was the only option left. She would have to plan carefully.

She finished stripping and grabbed a fresh set of clothes from the closet, stuffing a few things into a bag. She would not be here when Yukiko returned. She did not want to deal with her teacher or her stupid husband. Now that she had been confirmed as the Yōso miko, Yukiko would grovel. They would both acknowledge her and offer her the respect of her station.

What a load of bullshit! She was still human, a miko, and an enemy to their kind. What self-respecting lord would mate a miko? Her hand flew to her head. The pain was sharp. Her fault. The human. The miko. Amaterasu would pay her back for everything she had done. Everything they all had done.

Amaterasu shook her head. Nothing mattered but her revenge. She would have it. It was only a matter of time now. She picked up her bag and left the room, not even bothering to close the door.

With the party ended and Faye back in her room, Dark off with Kali, Kasumi and Satoshi to scan through the mountain of gifts. Faye flopped on her bed and Krad pulled her into his arms. With a groan, she pulled away, but he pulled her back. He wasn't ready to let her go yet. The night had been long and stressful, and Faye was upset. His possessive instincts were on overload. He had calmed down somewhat, but he still wanted her near to comfort and soothe her. And maybe to comfort and soothe himself too, if he was being completely honest.

She settled back into his arms. She understood enough about her boy's instincts to know that Krad was reacting on said instincts now. Besides, she had no objections to a cuddle-fest. She liked being in his arms, and her eyes drifted shut.

Her mind was working over the night's events. She wondered what Amaterasu was doing. What had she thought about the botched attempt on her life? She needed to have a long discussion with Kaya. Something about this whole situation was fishy to her.

The trial was scheduled for Monday. Less then two days. She remembered asking Chiharu what would happen at the trial. She was told that both sides would present evidence, like a human court. The council members would examine the evidence and make their decision. Then they would choose the appropriate punishment according to their law. Amaterasu was accused of trying to kill her. If they found her guilty, would they kill her?

"Stop, Faye."

Her eyes opened and she looked up into Krad's concerned gaze.

"Just stop."

He gently returned her head to its former place on his chest and rested his head on her pillow.

Stop before you get hurt.
