Just a little oneshot into the mind of Spot Conlon.

Spot Conlon doesn't date. Whoever told you he's a womanizer lied through their teeth.

Spot Conlon doesn't need some skirt hanging on his arm.

Spot Conlon can't stand boys with hoity-toity rich girls or prostitutes as their lady friends.

Spot Conlon hates weak girls.

Every now and then, you'd get those newsie girls. Sure, Brooklyn took them in. They weren't completely heartless. But newsies girls, tough as they were, didn't get with leaders. It was a sort of rule for them. No leaders.

You had Dutchy's girl, Jinx, Mush's girl, Doll, and a few others. They always ended up with the more sensitive ones that they felt could love someone so ungirly.

Jinx and Doll followed the rule. They stayed away from Jack Kelley. They didn't spare a glance at the other leaders. Midtown, Staten Island, Yonkers, Queens, the Bronx, the Battery. Any borough that took girls followed the rule.

So that took out the newsie girls then.

Spot wouldn't go near a pickpocket. Sure, he stole sometimes. But he also worked. Hard. If someone were to live solely on other people's wealth, they were no good.

So tough girls that weren't newsies or pickpockets?

Were there any of those?

Sure. The girls that worked in mills sometimes, or the ones that worked as seamstresses or waitresses or performers. Every now and then, you'd find one who refused to be walked all over.

They'd all heard of the 'vicious' Spot Conlon. Everyone had. The tough leader who nurtured his newsies with words like 'Get up and try again.'

The 'horrible' Spot Conlon that beat up a guy for no reason.

Yeah, but what did they know?

Did they know his newsies needed to be strong, to be able to push through to survive harsh winters and starvation?

Did they know that guy had been threatening one of the smaller boys that looked up to Spot like a father?

Rumors about Spot that circulated didn't portray him as the boy girls would fall all over. Sure, he was charming. Sure, he was handsome. But the pretty boy that talked smooth had a bad rep.

Those tough girls that decided he wasn't worth it hadn't looked into the Lodging House to see him bandaging little Stumble's knee, again. They hadn't listened to him tell stories that ended with the fated words happily ever after. Of course Spot didn't do those things.

But he did. Stumble was like a brother or a nephew, just like the other smaller boys. Clubs, his second, and the other older boys looked to him for guidance and words of encouragement.

Spot Conlon held everything together without a weak skirt clinging to him.

The nice Spot was saved for when he was inside with just the kids he knew and loved. Yes, Spot loves them. He didn't say it very often, but he does.

So we went from Spot hating weak girl's to Spot's reputation. But now you know.

Spot is more than rumors circling the streets. He can be kind, even caring.

Spot Conlon would never break a girl's heart. He would never go for a girl who's heart can be broken in the first place.

So there you go. I don't like it when people set him as the one who breaks girls hearts. It never once mentions that in the movie, and we never once see him with a girlfriend.

Flying out.

Monkey Cerebrum.
