Author has written 2 stories for Golden Sun.
Hi, Rialys here. Firstly, just to get things straight, I'm English and use English spellings. Secondly...uh...I actually prefer to write original fiction rather than fanfiction, but basing stories off games is good too. It means you can mess around as much as you like with the storyline given to you by the game/book and still write great stories. That makes me happy!
My original fiction tends to get very, very long, and you won't find it anywhere except on my home computer. It's mostly in first person and can get a bit confusing, but I like writing it. Most people don't understand it. But it's a nice way to while away the tedious hours when my parents are watching something like James Bond films or The Count of Monte Cristo.
ARRRGH! WHAT IS THIS MADNESS? I can...I can change my profile again? My computer's not being stupid anymore? faints
This thing needs an overhaul. I've decided to add some random stuff to make up for how slow my updates are now. Let's make some lists.
Name: Rialys (penname).
Age: 16
Gender: Female, in case you hadn't guessed.
Birthday: Some time in the middle of March. Ides of March, I think, or the day before.
Hobbies: Writing, reading, playing piano and cello, dancing, listening to random music, annoying my little brother
Likes: Melon, grapes, apple (in moderation), chicken, fish, spearmint Polos, Chinese food, manga, playing on DS, book shopping, languages, music, history, random films (eg Galaxy Quest, Wallace and Gromit films, Star Wars, Yojimbo), dinosaurs, my boots (one brown felt pair that look like WW2 airman's boots apparently, one black leather knee-high pair)
Dislikes: Sprouts, cabbage, pears, beef, Thomas Hardy, Maths, IT, bananas, not having a lock on my bedroom door, any other kind of shopping, having to carry my heavy cello around on the bus every Thursday, Harry Potter, A Series of Unfortunate Events, anything related to High School Musical
Favourite games: Golden Sun (bit obvious judging by my fics), Pokemon (Mystery Dungeon, Explorers of Darkness/Red Rescue Team especially), Lady Sia (it's a platformer nobody else seems to have ever heard of, but it was my first GBA game and I still love it now.)
Favourite books: I don't really have one of these, but I like The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and The Russian Concubine by Kate Furnivall. My favourite manga are Furuba (Fruits Basket), Claymore, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles and +Anima.
School subjects: English, English Literature, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, IT, French, German, History, Music
Future plans: Enjoy life. Try to get book published. Avoid becoming a slovenly child. Read as much as possible. Avoid failing my GCSEs. Die at some point (later rather than sooner)
Song of the moment: Raison d'etre by Nightmare (Claymore opening theme). Favourite songs are still Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin and The Chain by Fleetwood Mac.
Classical music favourites: Elgar Cello Concerto in E minor, Tchaikovsky Scene (Moderato) from Swan Lake, Beethoven's 5th and 7th Symphonies, the Trout Quintet, Mozart French Horn concerto in E flat major (the bouncy one)
Hm...I guess I should make a list of which character pairings I like for Golden Sun. For some reason, people seem to think I was hinting at windship in Seekers...I can't stand the windship. Sorry, but Ivan and Sheba are too similar for it to work in my opinion. No offence, windshippers. I just don't like it.
So, preferred ships are probably...
Felix/Sheba (For all those who don't get it, wake up. He jumped off a lighthouse to save her; in the battle arena place, she's flirting with him if you talk to her. It's obvious. Plus the character drawings look good together.)
Isaac/Jenna (So, I got TLA and therefore saw the Madra Blushing Scene before playing the original game. Who gives? Plus there's a lot of in-game proof for it.)
Garet/Mia (Just because I think it'd work. Not because of in-game stuff. But look, another guy who goes and jumps from somewhere on a lighthouse to rescue a girl and nearly kills himself. What is it with Valeans and lighthouses?)
Saturos/Menardi (This is practically canon, plus it just works. It's a chance to see a more human side to the 'baddies' of the original game.)
I also quite like some others...
Garet/Jenna (Meh, guess I just prefer different elements with each other, but the game...the game tells me things about this ship being...y'know, actually I can imagine Isaac and Garet both falling for Jenna, and then winding up being beaten to a pulp by Felix when he's in overprotective brother mode.)
Isaac/Mia (I can understand why, for starters. And again with the character designs working well. Blue and blond...just seem to work.)
Felix/Kay (No real reason why. There's nothing between them in-game, so this I'll save for alternate universes (like Seekers) and fics talking about either the characters' pre-game history/post-game adventures. I just reckon it would work.)
and I don't mind Felix/Karst (Bit weird for him to be holding hands with her at Mars Lighthouse when he's just killed her...plus on Jupiter Lighthouse I reckon the only reason she doesn't go rampant when F&co betray her is 'cos she likes him. And once again I return to the general compatibility of the character art.)
I can tolerate nearly all the rest and I don't mind slash pairings. However, there are some I really can't stand to look at...
Ivan/Sheba (For why, see above. Besides, they practically look like twins, so innocent bystanders in the game might think there was incest going on. Gods, is my mind screwed up - how many other people think of things like that?)
Alex/Mia (She hates him. End of. I don't care how many times he thinks about her on Jupiter Lighthouse. She. Hates. Him.)
I just can't see Piers/Mia working at all (They hardly say any lines to each other in-game, and I don't think their personalities would work together. It'd be really polite...which just doesn't work for me.) Maybe I just don't like Mercury Adepts together in a romance fic. Am I an...uh...elementist?
Also, unless it's meant to be a crackfic, I don't see Kraden with anyone. Though why anyone would want to be with Kraden is beyond me. Personally I don't like him much...how can anybody spout so much jargon at you in the space of a minute? And you can't even decline the annoying Alhafran Mayor's offer of a 'rest' after you fix the ship because Kraden decides to go and generally be a COMPLETE AND UTTER TWAT. Wow. I feel better for that.
Current story: Seekers. Alternate universe, with a very strange take on English history. The suffragettes happened two hundred years before the Peasants' Revolt (AKA the Venus Uprising in the fic), and we're currently in the industrial revolution. Aside from that, quite a serious adventure/romance with infiltration, betrayal, maybe some torture if that character isn't rescued quickly enough later on, and not a syrupy 'happy-ever-after' ending (they tend to make me feel a bit sick). And yes, there is a reason for always calling Piers 'Mariner'. Warnings are occasional strong language, some violence, and sexual references, but you guys can probably handle all that.
Okay then, here we go...
