Author has written 3 stories for Blue Exorcist/青の祓魔師, RWBY, and Initial D. I'm writing a Steven Universe fanfic. I wrote a Blue Exorcist fanfic like five years ago. It kinda sucked. The RWBY one was better. "Art imitates life and most of it is whack, y'all." -Slug Wahs96's Advice for Writing Better Fanfiction: "You have to be careful with pacing. In fanfiction, (and I mean with ALL fanfiction, written by anyone) there's this very understandable tendency to rush the set-up. Writing Fanfiction more or less always comes from a need we have as consumers of a certain media or story to see the characters of said story in situations and with people that we don't ever get to witness in the actual cannon. And when we start writing our fanfiction, we already have these situations in our head, and we see it as our mission to get to these "fun" parts of the story as fast as possible. So what happens is that the set up we need to have in place so that we can write the things we really want to write about feels rushed, and unrealistic. Don't feel bad because I'm guilty of this too, anyone who has ever written fanfiction is guilty of this. When writing dialogue, think carefully about how a conversation flows and the little nuances in the way people speak to each other and how they hold themselves when they speak to each other. People are rarely direct, when you think about the number of words you use in even the most basic of conversations, and you quickly realize that people talk A LOT, even when they don't need to. It's human. Or maybe just American." |
