I love writing, but stories posted here are likely to be few and far between owing to time constraints and the fact that most of what I write is not polished enough or is otherwise unsuitable to post online. I try to make my work as good as I can before posting, since I feel that it's a waste of both my and my readers' time to publish stories that are not decent writing.

Constructive criticism is always appreciated. I do incorporate reasonable suggestions and make necessary edits that are pointed out to me. I am also willing to return the favor for those who wish. See my beta profile for my strengths and weaknesses.

The stories I write are mostly character-driven. I like to read/write stories that get more into the motivations, personality, and psyche of the characters than we may see in the canon, or that put a new twist on a character. For this reason, I seldom write OCs, and when I do, they are usually minor characters. I just like playing with the established characters more, especially their interactions with one another.

For some reason, I really like AUs that take the same basic story and characters and put them in an entirely different genre. (Except for high school AUs. I had more than enough of high school while I was there, thank you very much.) I think these show the author's creativity by adapting elements and characters from the original to another setting. They're a lot of fun to read (and write).

Blood Oath -- Pirates of the Caribbean
This is a short one-shot that I wrote mostly as a practice piece to get back in the swing of writing fiction. It's a look at what I imagine Will and Elizabeth's early friendship was like when they were children, particularly with regards to what it meant to Elizabeth. It is not meant to be a pairing, but you could read it either way, I suppose.

Love, Elizabeth -- Pirates of the Caribbean
This is a two-shot that again concerns Will and Elizabeth's early relationship as teens. It's what I imagine happened between them that will lead up to the state of things in the opening of CotBP, where their relationship seems a little strained. I wrote this as a companion piece to Blood Oath, though it's not necessary to read that one to understand this one.

Queen of Diamonds -- Aladdin
This is a 'What if?' AU. It was interesting to me that in the movie, Jasmine also lies to Aladdin about her identity for, like, a day, but she gets off scot-free, while Aladdin is the one who struggles with whether to tell the truth and gets all the blame for lying. Also, Jasmine only gets the freedom she so desires for one day. So I wondered what would happen if Jasmine weren't forced to reveal herself so soon. Would she also be tempted to pass herself off as something she's not, as Aladdin was? This story explores how this would change the plot and especially how our heroes develop as people as a result. The only pairing is Aladdin/Jasmine. I will admit, it's a bit darker and more mature than the movie, and borrows a few elements from the musical and the original tale as well (though not the TV series—never seen it).

The Western Hobbit -- The Hobbit
This story started when I was thinking to myself: What if J.R.R. Tolkien were American instead of British? We all know that Tolkien's work was heavily influenced by the history, folklore, and languages of Europe, particularly the British Isles and Scandinavia. It stands to reason that if Tolkien were American, he would be influenced by American history and folklore—in particular, the Western.

The Old West is the Golden Age of U.S. history that has been elevated to legendary status more than any other. It's a period of history that shaped U.S. culture in ways that are seen to this day. The genre of the Western novel did not really begin, however, until this period of history was already over. Western novels and movies, therefore, do not so much reflect real life and events as they do what we imagine those events and people were like. They show us the legend, not the reality. Which, when you think about it, is kinda what Tolkien did with Middle Earth.

So what if The Hobbit were a Western? This is essentially what I wanted to write. I will be following the plot of Tolkien's original book, but I will still be including certain elements from the movies. This story will be written as a Western, but Westerns are not the only type of stories that are important in American folklore. I'm also throwing in a lot of elements of tall tales. I even plan to include some elements from Native American and African American folklore as well.

This story is set pre-Civil War in the mid-1800s, meaning that slavery is still legal. There will be no slash in this story, nor really any other kind of romance. The book had no romance, and this little project is only fun for me if I can make it recognizable as being based on Tolkien’s work. Likewise, there will be no Tauriel. She is a part of the movies that I personally really could have done without. I’m sorry for those of you who are disappointed by this, but my hope is that you find something else that you like about this story that makes it worth reading.
