Hello Readers, Writers & Fandom's of all forms!

My name is Brittany, I am a 31 year old nerdy crafter and animal lover who has been writing since the age of 12. I've always enjoyed reading as a kid, either being read too, reading to someone, or putting my own nose in a book. I find it thrilling; treating the characters like real people and not wondering what will happens next. I still try to read just as much as I write, but it's difficult when adulthood gets in the way. Stephen King said if you're a writer, when you're not writing you should be reading.

The first story I remember ever writing was called "The Magic Boy". It was only two pages, single spaced and neatly printed (for a 12 year old that's a lot!). The plot was quite literally about a boy who had magical powers. Simplistic, but got the point across. Since then I've been creating romance, horror, action/adventure, dystopia, mystery, and the off fantasy story of various lengths and levels of complexity. The desire to infuse real life with imaginary continues to be my inspiration for all the fanfiction pieces I have on here.

I got my first taste of what "Fan fiction" really was when I was 13. There was a story on a Mummy fan site called "The Mummy, Another Tale" which fit in perfectly with my current obsession with the 1999 Blockbuster Hit starting Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraiser. This story is what kicked off my writing career (I still have a copy in my desk drawer). My own writing "career" began to fall in step with my all time favourite series; CSI. In the year 2000, I was bewildered by this crime drama. I became emotionally invested in the characters, treating them as real people which was a bit problematic at times (hate mail anyone?) as I started to get my own crime stories peculating in my brain.

I am not afraid to admit that editing is not one of my strong suits. I have horrible grammar and sometimes sentence structure, but this is where my readers\reviewers come into play. I LOVE getting comments on what I write!! It makes me feel appreciated and respected by the writing community. It also gives me the warm and fuzzy's knowing that people are taking the time to invest as much time in reading the story as I am in writing it. I do try my best to respond to messages and reviews, understanding how valuable one author's opinion can be to another.

The best piece of advice I have for any new or veteran authors out there; pay it forward. By reading and reviewing the work of those who take the time to do the same for you, you will gain more exposure, a nice social network, and above all, respect. I can understand how frustrating it is sometimes to post a work on here and never hear from other writers, or when you do, it is the one word reviews with no substance trust me, we have all been there! Showing a bit of effort in your review, since you took the time to read the story, is always appreciated (particularly if it is constructive criticism or unconditional praise!)

Aside from my Fan Fictions I do also write my own work. I love to write short stories and also, for the last 5 years, have entered NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). The challenge to write 50,000 words in a month is quite stressful, but feels amazing when you've accomplished the unthinkable! I would recommend this to any new or experienced author. It is amazing how focused you become and a great way to keep ideas fresh and flowing even if they are only partially completed ones.

The last thing I want to mention, is the biggest news of all!

I'm a published author! I know that for some of you on here this is probably the final step, the peak of your career! But let me tell you, it's no picnic. I published my very first, original work "Secretive" 8 years ago through a Self Publishing Company in the States. Unfortunately, due to contact issues and low sales, the book is no longer on the shelves. It was frustrating the experience I had, but that has not stopped me from creating manuscripts and putting my work out their in the hopes that one day it will be picked up by a reputable publishing house.

Keep those fingers pounding the key board and the pen hitting the paper, being a writer is hard work, but in the end it always pays off!
