Here are ten "rules" that I try to live by when it comes to grammar in my writing:

1. If it's under a hundred, or sometimes even above, always use words to express numbers.

2. Keep all verbs in the same tense (with the exception of dialogue).

3. Never call a character by a nickname when in narration.

4. Never break that sacred fourth wall.

5. Use the right word (your/you're, two/to/too, etc.).

6. Use apostrophes where needed when using slang (runnin').

7. Never repeat words five letters or over more than two times in five consecutive sentences. This one's tricky; just watch for tedious repetition.

8. End declarative or imperative dialogue that doesn't end a paragraph with "," instead of ".".

9. Don't use endless blocks of text; use dialogue and thoughts from different characters to start new paragraphs.

10. If you're not sure, don't do it (or get a beta, I guess).

And five inspo (inspiration) rules:

1. Let your life infiltrate your writing; you're more passionate when that happens.

2. Let the world around you inspire you. You're by a cat? Put a cat in your story! Might end up kinda crazy, but that's life.

3. Let it flow. Don't fight it; just go with it. You might like where you end up.

4. Don't fight your way through writer's block; coax your muse out gently.

5. Don't be offensive in your writing, but don't be afraid to speak your mind, either.

And some tips:

1. Use a thesaurus.

2. Use proper punctuation and capitalization.

3. Proofread. Multiple times.

4. Use proper spelling.

5. Be descriptive through everything or just use one of those gray lines (I forget what they're called) to show a time skip; your choice.

6. NEVER write in script, use * to show action, or smileys and text talk in any way except if two people are texting!

7. Never use that "?!" thing; choose one or the other.

8. Don't bow to peer pressure like I always do; stay strong!
