Ultimate Danganronpa 3: Despair's Final Challenge

Hello I like video games. My favorite of all being the Danganronpa franchise. I am in the midst of working on a fanfic which accompanies twenty Ultimate high schoolers put onto two teams of ten. Kagayaku Mirai (Shining Future) and Kurai Mirai (Dark Future). In addition, I will also post report card information on here, which becomes more relevant the more time Akira spends with the other students, and all outfits and physical details will be posted on here as well. The teams are as follows:

Kagayaku Mirai

Akira Maita (Ultimate Wannabe)

Kanji: 迷た 諦

Name Meaning: The first part of Akira's surname,"Mai-" (迷) is an irregular pronunciation of the word "mei" which translates to lost and is used in the term "maigo", meaning "lost child". While his given name "Akira" (諦) comes from the verb "akirameru" which means "to abandon, or to give up".

Likes: Daydreaming, sketching/drawing, cloud watching, and listening to music.

Dreams/Aspirations: Not sure yet, he just wants to find out what makes him special.

Outfit primarily seen in: A blue sweatshirt with silver trimmings which is unzipped, a white t-shirt with music notes on it, blue jeans, black socks, black and silver tennis shoes, and red headphones with sky blue accents on them that are worn around his neck.

Hair type: Short, and a single bang droops over left eye slightly.

Distinguishing features and characteristics: His right ear is pierced and studded, and despite his overall averageness the others think of him as their unspoken leader.

Ultimate Despair?: He is starting to vividly remember things that he has said or done previously. His first recollection being a memory of him conversing with Nagito as an Ultimate Despair, and his second being of him standing over a dead girl with a smile on his face and a bloody knife in his hand. But whether he is truly an Ultimate Despair is unclear at this point in time.

Nagito Komaeda (Ultimate Lucky Student, class 77-B)

Kanji: 狛枝 凪斗

Name Meaning: "Nagito" (凪斗) as a name means "Calm Below the Dipper", as in the big dipper constellation, while "Komaeda" (狛枝) translates as "Lion-Dog Tree Branches". Lion-Dogs are statues that protect and guard shrines in Shintoism. The kanji used are rather old and classical, which may allude to an old family line or an upper class background (of which Nagito does have).

Likes: Beautiful things, hope, people who represent hope (the Ultimates), and killing for the sake of hope.

Dreams/Aspirations: Worthless people like him don't have dreams, he just wishes to find the true Ultimate Hope and see them defeat Ultimate Despair.

Outfit primarily seen in: A long dark green coat that goes down past his knees and has a jagged-cut tail, with red squares on the right shoulder of the coat, and a large red number '55' on the back of it. Underneath his coat he wears a blue hospital gown tucked into a pair of black pants that have a series of chains and zippers going all around them and are strapped to his waist by a loose fitting brown belt with a creepy smiley face shaped belt buckle. He also wears a pair of ugly and worn brown boots that are taped up in several places and are missing a few shoelaces. And last but not least, a pair of thick, burgundy oven mitts that he always wears on his hands.

Distinguishing features and characteristics: There's never a time when he isn't either praising the others or beating himself up, there's actually a theory going that he does it purely because he's a masochist, so on top of being gay he's also very creepy; but he makes up for it somewhat with his desire for hope to be brought back to the world and the fact that he is often gifted with unique, lucky opportunities. Though despite his odd personality if you look at him just from the outside you can see he's just a pale and sickly boy who wants to be loved for the scum he is.

Ultimate Despair?: Former member of the original Ultimate Despairs, and part of the Seeds of Hope.

Micho Auruka (Ultimate Defense Attorney)

Kanji: 遇利花 倫

Name Meaning: "Micho" (倫) is an irregular pronunciation of the name "Michi" which when written as this kanji means "companion, or ethics" which refer to Micho’s caring personality. As for her surname, "Au-" is written as (遇) and means "to meet, encounter, or deal with" which is probably referring to a lawyer’s job of dealing with their clients, and the "-Ruka" (利花) part of "Auruka" is an irregular pronunciation of the name "Rika" which means "clever, or advantageous" referring to Micho’s cleverness as a defense attorney.

Outfit primarily seen in: She wears a fuzzy blue sweater, a matching blue beanie hat which has a hole in it for her ahoge to fit through so it can't be covered, a purple skirt, a pair of knee high pink and white striped socks, and a pair of sensible purple shoes.

Distinguishing features and characteristics: Though she may act like a real lawyer sometimes her character gives off a more jovial appeal. She also has a strong desire to prove herself as one of the greatest defense attorneys who ever lived, and is willing to do anything in order to accomplish her goal of cleaning up the world's justice system.

Beigoma Kiyoshi (Ultimate Quote Keeper)

Kanji: 清 貝独楽

Name Meaning: Beigoma’s given name is written as (貝独楽) which translates literally to "Beigoma" which are Japanese spinning top toys that are traditionally made out of Japanese Babylon shells. The object of the game is to spin two Beigomas in an arena and have them try to topple one another to see which one stops spinning first. Beigomas are actually believed to be the origin of the popular Beyblade toys. And her surname "Kiyoshi" is written (清) which means "clean, clear, or pure", which is probably referring to her gentle nature.

Distinguishing Features and characteristics: Her outfit gives the impression she's a maiden in waiting straight out of a romance novel, and she is also a closet otaku and Akira Maita and Mukuro Ikusaba's self-declared little sister. She is also very affectionate towards Akira, going far beyond the limits of a normal little sister due to her sometimes awkward comments about incest and the like.

Soshun Murasame (Ultimate Student Council President/Ultimate Deva)

Kanji: 村雨 早春

Name Meaning: "Soshun" (早春) means "early spring". His last name, "Murasame" (村雨) means, as a whole, "a passing shower." It should be noted that "Murasame" has also been the name of several Japanese "destroyer" warships. (Fan Note) - In Danganronpa 3 Side Despair, when Junko presents the student council of Hope's Peak with files containing their personal information, the other Soshun's file has his name written as (村上 早春) "Murakami Soshun". This, however, might simply be an oversight by the anime's producers…or it could be hinting to the existence of a certain Deva. After all, "Kami" means "God".

Birthday: August 18th (coincides with the release date of the first ever Scott Pilgrim book, who happens to be another famous slacker).

Astrological sign: Leo

Likes: Slacking, reading, taking naps, daydreaming (pretty much anything you can do to avoid any actual work).

Dislikes: School, homework, teachers, rules, work of any kind.

Dreams/Aspirations: To be a respectable hikikomori (if you believe in such a thing).

Outfit primarily seen in: He wears a pair of black glasses (even indoors), a black V-neck t-shirt with a decal of a cartoonish skull on it, a pair of dark green cargo pants, a pair of black spike studded bracelets on both of his wrists, and a pair of black and white sneakers.

Hair type: Short and with a crescent-like ahoge.

Hair color: Silver

Distinguishing features and characteristics: He does not look or act like a Student Council President at all. The opposite could be said for his alternate personality however who seems a bit too energetic and willing to fight.

Chihiro Fujisaki (Ultimate Programmer)

Kanji: 不二咲 千尋

Name Meaning: The kanji for "Fujisaki" (不二咲) can altogether mean "Two Unblooming (Flowers)", while "Chihiro" (千尋) translates to "One Thousand Questions".

Likes: Computers, programming, solving algorithms and equations.

Dislikes: Being the center of attention, bullies, being a burden on anyone.

Outfit primarily seen in: She wears a somewhat bookish outfit. A navy blue dress shirt over a white undershirt, a red flannel skirt, a matching red lace bow around her collar, a pair of black knee-high socks, and a pair of sensible-looking white shoes. And she also wears a small pink and white rabbit hairpin on the right side of her head.

Distinguishing features and characteristics: Though timidity is in her nature she can be surprisingly funny and cool when push comes to shove, and Akira Maita thinks she is the very definition of kawaii.

Ultimate Despair?: Has yet to be confirmed (think of this Chihiro Fujisaki as a completely different Chihiro).

Nate Baron (Ultimate Assassin)

Kanji: 配ん 寧研

Name Meaning: Nate is half-Japanese so he uses full Kanji. His given name "Nate", pronouced "Neito", is written (寧研) which translates to "peace" and "hone, or refine" respectively. This could be referring to Nate’s peace loving nature and his sharp skills as an assassin. And the prefix for his last name "Baro-", pronounced "Baru-", is written (配) which means "to distribute or deliver", which in Nate’s case could only mean one thing…death.

Birthday: January 1 (he doesn't know his real birthday for reasons that he will reveal later on).

Dreams/Aspirations: Not sure yet, he'd like to put his assassin skills to use somehow though (besides using them to kill people of course).

Hair type: Goes down to his shoulders and is tied back with a white bandanna.

Distinguishing features and characteristics: Has a single strip of eye black underneath his right eye, a full facial stubble beard, a tattoo of the Star of David on the back of his neck, and he loves knives to the point where it's just plain creepy.

Aya Kisaragi (Ultimate Marine Biologist)

Kanji: 如月 早

Name Meaning: Aya’s given name is written as (早) which means "fast", which is probably referring to her fast-talking mouth. And her surname "Kisaragi" is written (如月), and translates to "like or equivalent" and "month" respectively, and also translates to "February" in English. Though in Japan most people refer to February as "nigatsu" (二月) "the second month of the lunar calendar", "Kisaragi" is a more traditionally used word and nowadays is mainly found in the surnames of families. In other words, it’s a very common last name in Japan.

Sawa Nanase (Ultimate Triathlete)

Kanji: 何汗 沢

Name Meaning: "Sawa" (沢) as a name means "swamp, or marsh" which could be referring to Sawa’s outdoorsy nature. And "Nan-" (何) translates as "what?” and "-Ase" (汗) translates as "sweat, or perspiration". So altogether "Nanase" could be saying "What sweat?" as a pun on Sawa’s extreme athletic prowess.

Astrological sign: Gemini

Likes: Swimming (but only in the ocean/ lakes/rivers etc), running and biking at night-time, the way the city lights look in the rain, floaty dresses, clouds, the beach, ocean, her photo albums, jewelry, rainbows, weapons, trivia, her friends, dictionaries, being barefooted, Nagi Yanagi, and crime dramas that emphasize the victim.

Dislikes: Swimming pools (this is why she became a runner for her school, not a swimmer), idiots, wearing shoes/socks, spicy foods, pointless chatter, gossip, rumors, people with a lack of compassion.

Dreams/Aspirations: None per se, she just wants to run through life while feeling the wind in her hair. But she does share later on that she wants to become a crime reporter when she gets older to help bring more attention to the victims of tragedies.

Outfit primarily seen in: She wears a dark-blue dress made from a silky, thin, and wispy materials that's short-sleeved and the skirt of the dress is billowy and of knee length. She also has a series of silver bracelets around both of her wrists, a blue ribbon which she wears in her hair, a necklace with a dolphin pendant around her neck, and a pair of flat-heeled, brown strapped sandals (which she doesn't usually wear, just hold onto while she walks around barefoot).

Distinguishing features and characteristics: She has been described as having an angel or elf-like face due to her pointed ears, and little is known about her so far save for the fact that she likes to walk around barefoot.

Connie Takemi (Ultimate Horologist)

Kanji: タケミ コニー

Name Meaning: Connie is 100% French so her name doesn’t have any kanji in it, only katakana. But if you’d like to know her given name "Connie" written in kanji would look like this (来逃) which roughly translates to "escaping the future", which could be a reference to Connie’s love of the old-timey lifestyle. And her surname "Takemi" written in kanji is (偉見) which means "admirable, greatness, and famous" and "see, visualize, or hopes" respectively. This is referring to Connie’s aspirations to make her family the Takemi Time Keepers famous again and her hopes to do so.

Likes: Clocks, watches, inventions, Steam Punk lifestyle, the literary works of Lewis Carroll, children (as she had a little brother and sister who she cared deeply for), the study of time travel (it's sort of her pipe dream).

Dislikes: People who think that just because something's old it's junk, people who make fun of others behind their backs, being alone (as you will find out later).

Dreams/Aspirations: She wants to preserve her family's legacy and find a way to bring an old-timey flare back to mainstream society.

Outfit primarily seen in: She wears a light brown jacket with coat tails over a puffy white dress shirt, a pair of bright green pants, a pair of white gloves, a pair of black shoes, and a pair of gold pocket watches which are strung and wound around her jacket sleeves for decoration. And her top hat that she is never seen without is purple in color and has a card that reads 10/6 tucked away inside a strap on the side. She also wears a pair of red and green lensed goggles that hang around the base of her top hat, and there is also a large functioning clock inside the hat itself. Her whole motif is like Mad Hatter meets Time Lord.

Distinguishing features and characteristics: She comes from a long line of clock craftsmen and watchmakers referred to as the Takemi Timekeepers, and claims it is her duty to mark a new legacy for her family which was why she originally came to Hope's Peak Academy; in addition to having an obsession with clocks and watches she also appears to have a thing for the lunacy of Alice in Wonderland as she calls all her classmates names of characters from the Lewis Carroll universe:

Akira Maita - Alice (main character in Alice in Wonderland and Alice through the Looking Glass, a pun since Akira is the main character in this story and they have similar names).

Izuru Kamukura - the Jabberwock (a deadly and mysterious creature in Lewis Caroll's poem Jabberwocky, and could also be a reference to Jabberwock Island).

Nagito Komaeda - the White Rabbit (another memorable character in Alice in Wonderland, which is used mainly because of Nagito's white hair).

Mukuro Ikusaba - the Bandersnatch (another fierce creature from Lewis Caroll's poems, not as deadly or mysterious as the Jabberwock but still very dangerous).

Chihiro Fujisaki - the Dormouse (the mouse that the Mad Hatter and March Hare constantly demean and abuse, not to say that Yasuke or Connie do that just referring to the Dormouse's delicate yet wise nature).

Yasuke Matsuda - the March Hare (the Mad Hatter's companion in Alice in Wonderland, mainly referencing the March Hare's rude and slobbish nature which Yasuke definitely has).

Nodaka Hoshi - Mary Ann (the White Rabbit's house maid, kind of self-explanatory).

Beigoma Kiyoshi - Daffodil/Lorina (Connie switches from calling her Daffodil to Lorina later on, Lorina being Alice's sister, just letting you know in advance on this part).

Azami Jagaimo - the Cheshire Cat (on account of her cat like nature).

Jonathan Junmaru - the Caterpillar (the demeaning character of Alice in Wonderland who blows smoke into people's faces, Jonathan is also somewhat demeaning so it's a perfect fit).

Aya Kisaragi - the Walrus (a character from Tweedledee and Tweedledum's poem in Alice through the Looking Glass, Aya is called this mainly because of her connection to marine life as the Ultimate Marine Biologist and partially because Connie does not like her as you will see later on).

Cam Yano - the King of Hearts (the short king who is pushed around constantly by the Queen of Hearts, sort of a pun because of Cam's scrawny physique and also the fact that he constantly proclaims his love for Chihiro).

Keiko Akasaka -the Queen of Hearts (the obnoxious and stubborn ruler of Wonderland in Alice in Wonderland, Connie at first called her this as a reference to Keiko's talent with playing cards but now it is more like a sign of admiration).

Nate Baron - Dodo (a character from Alice in Wonderland who's known for being quite the bragger, which Nate can also attest to).

Soshun Murasame/Deva - Tweedledee/Tweedledum (a pair of twins from Alice in Wonderland who are often very hard to figure out, mainly a pun on Soshun's split personality).

Shiro Shirobane - 572 (the playing cards who clumsily painted the Queen of Heart's roses the wrong color, which could be a reference to Shiro's somewhat scatterbrain nature).

Micho Auruka - the Carpenter (a character from Tweedledee and Tweedledum's poem in Alice through the Looking Glass who is at first the Walrus's companion but then goes on to punish the Walrus after he devours a school of defenseless oysters, Micho's character as defender of the innocent and punisher of evil goes along with this).

Jose Historia - Humpty Dumpty (a character from Alice through the Looking Glass who was very boisterous in his literary and word skills, referencing Jose's literary talent for constantly writing down everything in his journals).

Sawa Nanase - Sylvie (a young fairy child in one of Lewis Carroll's other works, Sylvie and Bruno, which could be in reference to Sawa's fairy like appearance).

Herself - the Mad Hatter (because she's a steam punk and because she herself is a little mad as a hatter).

Ultimate Despair?: Has yet to be confirmed.

Kurai Mirai

Izuru Kamukura (Ultimate Hope)

Kanji: カムクラ イズル

Name Meaning: His first and last names are written in katakana, but the original founder of Hopes Peak Academy Izuru Kamukura's names are written in traditional kanji."Izuru" (as 出流), which literally means "out of the current", could also mean "to go out into exile". Both of these meanings could reflect how Izuru Kamukura was a unique existence which felt very secluded due to having no peers. "Kamukura" (as 神座) means "a place in which a god resides" or "a seat for gods". This could reflect how Izuru was created to be a host for superhuman talent.

Likes: Uncertainty, seeing the guilty punished, chaos and order (as he thinks of the two as two sides to the same coin, and that one can't exist without the other).

Dislikes: Boring things, Junko Enoshima, people who frivolously try to change the world, people who pretend to be something they're not, not being able to remember who he once was.

Dreams/Aspirations: Right now all he wants to do is destroy everything that Junko Enoshima once stood for, but after that he'll just take the path that seems most interesting to him.

Outfit primarily seen in: He wears an all-black suit with a black tie over a white dress shirt, and he also wears a pair of black loafers. In short all black, like he's dressed for a funeral.

Hair type: Long, flowing, and messy.

Hair color: Raven black

Eye color: Blood red

Distinguishing features and characteristics: His whole appearance and demeanor give off the strongest impression that he doesn't care about anything, yet he seems to be enjoying the game most of all, maybe it's because he figured it would be boring to act as his usual self?

Ultimate Despair?: Even though he was the senpai in their relationship, he was definitely Junko's underling, as well as the second half of the Seeds of Hope. However, he doesn't seem to be interested in despair or hope for that matter, they both seem relatively boring to him right now.

Mukuro Ikusaba (Ultimate Soldier)

Kanji: 戦刃 むくろ

Name Meaning: Her given name is written in hiragana but "Mukuro" (as the Chinese character 躯) means "corpse" while the kanji for "Ikusaba" (戦刃) mean "war blade" or, sometimes, "battlefield". Which is indicative to her former life as a soldier for hire, and her talent for killing.

Age in the beginning: 16

Height: 169 cm Weight: 44 kg
Chest: 80 cm Blood type: A

Birthday: December 24th

Astrological sign: Capricorn

Likes: Weaponry, her past military lifestyle, Makoto Naegi, cute things (keep in mind she's still a girl, along with being a cold-blooded killing machine).

Dislikes: Her sometimes obedient and submissive nature, what Ultimate Despair has done to the world, herself for not stopping her sister sooner.

Dreams/Aspirations: Part of her thinks that the only way she can every truly make up for what she has done is by dying in a horrible fashion just as Junko did, but right now she wants to try and atone for her sins by helping the others fight against Ultimate Despair, and possibly find a little peace.

Outfit primarily seen in: She wears the typical girl’s uniform of Hope’s Peak Academy; a brown buttoned up dress jacket over a white dress shirt, which has a green ribbon tied around the collar, a brown skirt, a pair of knee-high white socks, and a pair of black dress shoes.

Hair type: Short and bobbed.

Hair color: Black

Eye color: Pale gray

Distinguishing features and characteristics: Though she is Junko's sister and a brilliant tactician due to her work as a former mercenary, she thinks it is her destiny in life to be given orders and refuses to acknowledge herself as anything but a tin soldier, she also has a wolf tattoo on her right hand to symbolize her days as a member of the Fenrir Mercenary Corps. But if you look a little closer you'll start to notice another side to Mukuro which she doesn't show very easily, she's a definite submissive, and she's also one on the few freckled characters in the Danganronpa universe.

Ultimate Despair?: Originally the second half of the Despair Sisters, and enforcer of her sister's wishes (in other words she does all the dirty work).

Yasuke Matsuda (Ultimate Neurologist)

Kanji: 松田 夜助

"No-" is an irregular pronunciation of "Nou" (悩)which means "suffering", "Da-" (打) in this context means "break", and "-Ka" (歌) in this context means song. So all together her name can roughly translate to "the song of suffering breaks" referring to Nodaka herself as the thing that breaks. And her surname "Hoshi" (法師) as a whole means "star" referring to her love of stars, which is probably why she chose that as her fake name. Her real surname however, "Nakatsukaze" (中強風) as a whole means "within the strong wind" which probably refers to Nodaka’s strong nature and her ability to face anything head on.
