When cleric Lucien Goldweight returns from his travels, he is scarred by the true wickedness of the world and decides that he will not fulfil his divine sacrifice; he will not be denied heaven. Breaking his vows and visiting his Golem, the foolish man has just unleashed hell. The darkness of all now runs free, with no one to stand in the path of its destruction.

It is at this time that Telemachus Dawn, the child general of Masamune awakens. After a disastrous first battle, the teenager has found himself disfigured. Despite losing his arm and all faith in his own ability, it is he who must unravel the mystery of the mines and reclaim his stolen honour.
