Author has written 2 stories for Phantom of the Opera. I've written fanfic for a very long time, nearly 30 years if you count my junior high scribbles from the 70s. Without the internet though, those stories, awful Mary Sues that they were, got shared with only a few like-minded friends. Twenty years passed, and somehow I stumbled onto fanfic on the web in the mid 90s. Voraciously I read Highlander, X-Files and Sentinel fic. I started writing again, and wrote more stories than I can recall in the Sentinel fandom, always growing, always learning with each new story. On New Year's Eve 2004, my life changed forever when I went to see ALW's Phantom of the Opera. It was so rich, so dense with sights and sounds and symbolism and angst and romance and tragedy that I couldn't absorb it all in one viewing. So I went back, and back, and back. And then I saw the stage production in Feb, and in August, and in December, and again this past May. I am completely captivated by Erik and Christine's tragic story. At first I thought what had been done before was complete, that I didn't have anything to add to this tragic love story. But then about the 16th time sitting in the movie theater, I watched the scene in the cemetery and suddenly thought "What if--?" Inspired, I went home and began to write. I wrote from February until November '05 and for most of that time, I completely avoided reading other authors' Phanfic. That novel length story is called "Stronger" and I will begin posting it to the net later this month (July '06). As I was writing "Stronger", I kept getting other snippets of ideas, and came up with the notion of writing a series of short stories, each one unconnected to the others, and all diverging from the movie at different points. Thus "Divergence". Most of it is up at ,and with artwork at my website. I'm still working on the final chapter of "Divergence" and will post it as soon as it's finished. If you've read this far, thanks, and I hope you enjoy my hard work! Carol |
