Not too long ago, Dis has lost her beloved husband. Dwalin finds her standing on her own out in the cold and tries his best to keep her company. Still water run deep, you know? (Unrequited love) [[Update]] Contains more chapters.

This is set between when Thorin headbutts Kili affectionately and when they charge out of the Lonely Mountain to join the fray. The main reason why I wrote this is because Fili had so little screen time in Battle of the Five Armies. Also, I've never really written from Fili's POV before so this was my attempt at it. There are some lines from the film. I hope you like it!

On the night before Thorin's company embarks upon their quest to reclaim their homeland, young Gimli, Son of Gloin, brings to the king a proposition: let him be the fourteenth member. However, he is quickly faced with disappointment and so he storms off and he does something that he will later regret. Chapter 2 spoils the ending of the Hobbit! Don't read it unless you want to!

Reaped of their sleep, both the toddler prince Thorin and his mother Princess Frira come together to comfort one another. He had a horrible nightmare and she had a baby constantly kicking the inside of her womb. Contains lyrics from "In Dreams" by Fran Walsh and Howard Shore. (The character tag says "OC" but it's really just Thorin's mother, which is named Frira in this.)

Dwalin saw the King Under the Mountain lingering on the ramparts of Erebor on the eve of War. The man he once had sworn his loyalties to was nothing but a shadow. He had to do something to make Thorin see reason, even if it meant stepping over the boundaries of a vassal and his king.

SPOILERS! DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE HOBBIT! Shortly after the Battle of Five Armies, Thorin calls Dwalin to his side to confide everything during his final moments. Once they successfully reclaimed Erebor, Fili and Kili noticed a drastic change in their lord uncle's behavior. The following are haiku poems documenting a few key scenes (and some fabricated, of course) from when they came to Erebor, leading to that fateful moment when their courage is tested. Enjoy! Might be spoiler-ish if you haven't read the book.

The King of the Durins Folk and his nephews always share a close bond. Whenever he goes off on long trips, the two young boys cry and beg for him to not leave them. So he sings to soothe their sorrow. As they grow older, the two join him on his quest to reclaim Erebor. Thorin is able to find some quiet time before the Battle of Five Armies to sing them a lullaby.

Dis often soothes her two boys to sleep with her sweet lullabies. Let's just say, old habits die hard, even after the loss of her young sons.

The past meets with the present in unexpected ways. On a day that is meant for mourning, a great thing happens. The dwarf king must now cope with his nightmares while he remains strong for his family and his people. There is a lot of family man Thorin as well as angsty Thorin. Peppered in with some Khuzdul and some cute dwarfling conversations. Rated T for depressing images.

This poem is what I wrote for English last year. It's about my OC and her memories of her deceased son and how she regrets ever taken up the path of a hitokiri...
