Reviews for 04 BBC SHERLOCK: The Case of the FLAT-OUT Adventure
Sylphrena33 chapter 7 . 7/31/2019
I like this. I've really been enjoying this series. I love how you portray John and Sherlock's friendship, I think you've really captured the dynamic they have. I also love how John is leaning how to observe and deduce, and the patience Sherlock has in teaching him. Really great job with this, I'm excited to continue reading this series.

Another well-plotted casefic from you!

The thing with the night vision and the eye patches was very clever and very Sherlock.

The setting is also highly original. At first I thought, "not another warehouse", since they're so ubiquitous in "Sherlock" fic whenever people need some sort of non-descript, shady location. But yours really has a personality!

Sherlock pretending to be Poirot was hilarious. (Although as an old friend of Poirot's, I really must insist that he's most emphatically not an "Inspector" but a private detective, too!)

If I have a complaint, it's that the casefic part of the story is almost too complicated. When I read a story, I do read it properly and I don't skip things, and yet I must admit that you lost me several times with the descriptions of the physical layout of the place, and I had to go and re-read to make sure I was picturing everything correctly (since it's so eminently important to picture things correctly to understand the solution). But it may have been me - and I always say I don't write *my* stories for idiots, either. :D

This was such fun! I so enjoyed seeing the boys having such a good time. And all the byplay in this chapter was terrific.

Thanks so much for this charming interlude between "Hounds" and TRF.

A very neat conclusion:-)
Clever location for stolen goods:-)
Thank you for sharing.

As a fan of canon, and well written, canon - friendly fiction, I adore this story. Your characters ring so true to form. And the execution of the case if is so very well done.

And to that extent, as one who attempts to write fic, your story here could serve as a "how to" when writing good, solid case fic. Brilliantly done, my friend.

A brilliant resolution to the case! Wow, I love your original characters, their construct and emotion. Especially Dodd. This is wonderful.
Fang's Fawn chapter 7 . 3/1/2016
Oh, what a wonderful ending! This was tons of fun...I'm adding it!
Fang's Fawn chapter 6 . 3/1/2016
I love Mr. Dodd...he reminds me of my Dad, who was also a business owner, and people abusing his trust hurt him far more than the harm to his business. Your characters are all so realistic...I can totally picture them! Everyone's motivations make sense, even if they're not tenable.

My husband and I love "antiquing," so this has been an especially fun read for me. :-) And Sherlock's being pleased with himself is always fun to watch (even if you want to poke him for it like John)!

A marvellously light-hearted chapter and a great ending to a great story. Thank you! :)
Honourable chapter 7 . 2/29/2016
Splendid little piece, here. This final item captured their BBC voices exactly! And we very much enjoyed the cleverness of the 'process' by which the thefts were carried out. Worthy of the Master! Looking forward to whatever comes next from your fertile brain-Honour

Neat mystery. Like stealing wheelbarrows. Love it.
englishtutor chapter 7 . 2/29/2016
This was such a fun story! I love that you ended it with shared laughter. It makes me laugh myself, to think of Masterson's house being dismantled! Serves him right!

This was brilliant, the way Sherlock gently goaded John into deducing the answer. "You know my methods," original Holmes said to original Watson-the greatest gift the detective could imagine giving to his friend.

But, ah, the poignancy you wove into this lovely story. They've been partners nearly eighteen months: "There will be other times to talk." Sigh. Poor John will regret his reticence one day soon.

I love how wonderfully HUMAN all of your OC's are in this story. I can picture them perfectly, and they all react exactly as one would expect under the circumstances. I especially love Dodd, so aware of himself and taking control-understandably angry, but remaining fair-minded. It's lovely, the way he treats Clara with understanding and comfort. I also love Nathan's very human confession that he just had not cared whether the goods were being stolen-he only cared about getting better assignments. This is such a great read!
Kels93 chapter 7 . 2/29/2016
That was a wonderful ending! I was giggling so much at how Sherlock and John interact; I just love it. The "ritual" Sherlock undergoes as he comes in was so "Sherlocky" and I could see him so clearly doing all of that! I may have told you this before (but it's true!): I also "hear" the boys very well when you write. Loved the tying up of the case, Masterson's house restorations and all that (kudos to John for his deduction there!). Hmmm...does the "pirate moment" contain a possible future story?!
Kels93 chapter 6 . 2/29/2016
Oh that counter-move will be so satisfying! I love the particulars of their antique business; you have it all so detailed! The Christopher-Stevie transformation is fascinating and devious. I think it speaks very well for Mr. Dodd how he is more hurt by people abusing his trust than he is concerned with getting even. "Sherlock wore a conceited grin until a nudge against his ribcage dislodged it": the wording there is just beautiful! John's observations about the anger management are so "Dr. Watson", hehe. He really moved the case along when he figured out the items were pre-selected, too. This has been awesome!
