![]() Author has written 39 stories for Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, Merlin, Misc. Books, Enid Blyton, Harry Potter, Atlantis, Sherlock, Red Dwarf, Sherlock Holmes, Around the World in Eighty Days, and Picture of Dorian Gray. Je me présente: 22 years old, student of French at the University of Oxford, and occasional fanfiction writer. I have been mostly on hiatus for quite a while now, because Oxford is quite a demanding university to attend, as you might well imagine, and the art of the essay must come before that of the fanfiction. I try to spend some of my free time writing, but when one spends almost one's entire life writing, it is sometimes less than preferable. My name is not Juliana Brandagamba, obviously. It's a pen name (and sort of alter ego) that I invented quite a while ago now, and which has begun to become embarrassing, but which I can't abandon now since I use it everywhere. I have another fanfiction account under the name of Julianne Dufrenoy on which I have posted a handful of (doubtless terrible) French translations of my fics. I would love feedback both on the stories and in particular on the quality of translation, so if you speak French and have a moment, I would be much obliged. My profile picture is of Jules Verne's house in Amiens. Jules Verne is among my very favourite authors, and I feel sometimes as if I am single-handedly running the fandom, because it is so ridiculously small considering how great his books are, how endearing his characters are, how much material he offers to play with. His books aren't all science-fiction - indeed, one might argue that none of them fall into that genre - and there's a lot to his works that people don't normally associate with him. Truly, if you fancy joining me on these Extraordinary Voyages, then have a look at some of his lesser-known books. I would be more than happy to provide recommendations: just wing me a message. As you might notice, I dabble in many fandoms. The main ones for which I have written are BBC Sherlock and Merlin, both of them among my favourite shows. My main ongoing fics at the moment, which I'm afraid I don't update reliably, but which I promise I will eventually finish, are: Whatever Remains, However Improbable. In which Sherlock finds himself completely out of his depth, chiefly owing to the revelations of his new flat-mate Merlin. The Innocence of Childhood. In which Merlin comes to Camelot at a rather younger age and sees everything through different eyes. This one is my unexpected smash-hit because I wasn't intending to turn it into a proper continuing fic, but I got such a remarkable response that I have started to flesh it out into a re-working of the series. The Camelot Grail, a work in progress with an actual plot that, though fragmentary, is the most likely of all of these to be updated and/or finished. At the moment it features a lot of Camelot politics; later on it will develop into a more epic quest that I promise will have some rather significant scenes. I cannot read a good deal of my earlier works now without cringing. However, some people liked them, so there is little possibility of me removing them altogether, unless on re-reading them I cringe myself almost to death. Writing to me is a means of experimentation. Sadly that means that I write and write but almost never finish everything. It is rewarding to finish things, but it is also rewarding to start things, and the latter is easier, so I do that much more often. |
