Lovely story. Showing how Martin has to tame his anxiety as a parent and tame his animosity towards Pitts while trying not to give in to his urge to take over as surgeon was well portrayed. The conflict of duty versus personal needs is also nicely explored. Well done - hope you have more stories up your literary sleeve :)

Well, this was quite an eventful day for Martin wasn't it. Not just a scary medical issue with his son, but an entire reflection on nearly his entire life, career and all professional and personal relationships. At least he was able to right one wrong with a kiss in the taxi, even if it was 10 years late in coming. I imagine Louisa found that to be a good ending to the day.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fic. You showed the father persona of Martin so well. I hope you will write more of this family in the future. Thanks!

A good story well written

I have been neglectful in commenting on this story. It is excellently written, especially placing the parental shoe on Martin's foot. Forcing him to introspect is really good. Also we tend to view people as we knew them in the past. People do change.

Ooooh - lots for Martin to think about ... even if he managed to identify the difference between himself and Pitts. I do think you've nailed it - wonder if Martin will be a little kinder in future to the idiots he encounters ... hmmmm.

This was great! So glad the surgery went well for James and loved the part where Pitts questioned Martin. Love this story!

A wonderful chapter! Great work.

Great work in breaking down the personality layers of each of the two doctors. Martin isn't a cruel person - he's socially inept and brutally honest but he's not vindictive. Pitts on the other hand is narcissistic - his being a surgeon just feeds that narcissism. Martin's being a surgeon/doctor feeds his need to help people - sometimes whether they want to be helped or not, as in the case of the suntanning melanoma lady. :) Looking forward to the next installment.
