Reviews for She was the Oldest
Scot chapter 1 . 5/30/2012
Aw, that's so moving. Poor Liesl what an awful thing for her to have to suffer on her birthday. Well done sweet little Brigitta for giving her her book a lovely touch of affection between the sisters. I almost cried when Agathe told Liesl to look after her young siblings and then called her back and said", Look after your father too." How astute realising Captain von Trapp needed someone to look after him. Great fanfic, RhapsodyIn Progress, really enjoyed it!
David chapter 1 . 1/19/2012
Aw, this is a lovely story. It shows Liesl's sincere love for her father and her siblings. There isn't a love more sincere than that shown by a kid.
lrigD chapter 1 . 6/7/2010
Such a sad story, I actually got tears in my eyes...
viennacantabile chapter 1 . 7/22/2009
gahh! you made me tear up. it's so sad. poor liesl. sniffle. anyway, i liked how you differentiated the children - you're right, liesl would probably be the only one to really remember frau von trapp. and i love her trying to be strong for them. another really good detail is the epic silence in the house at the time of her death. it works very well, puts us in liesl's head. and also, i like the thing about kurt's stomach, lol.

a few things: alright should be all right, there are a few errors that are technically spelling but really more usage-based (lead vs. led, for instance), and for some reason i'm not sure about the ending. i like how it's set up, but for some reason, it doesn't feel like an ending the way it's formatted. maybe if you had it like this:

“Goodnight Liesl,” the Captain said, “my fine, brave girl.”

But she was back into deep slumber and did not hear.

it's only a suggestion, though. good work! :D
BakerStreetIsLastRefugeOfHope chapter 1 . 2/26/2009
A great story. Very good.
Cascaper chapter 1 . 6/1/2008
I went back to your account and I was looking over the reviews- and was shocked to find I didn't have one for this story. This is inexcusable for me, so...here 'tis.

Because I really do love this story and cannot understand why I didn't already review it. It is so heart-wrenching I may need emotional surgery. The death scene was, as a piece of literature, amazing beyond all reason. Or actually just apply that phrase to the whole thing. And you're sure you're only going to submit three stories? A writer like you, there has to be more somewhere...
Bluebird88 chapter 1 . 10/1/2007
Beautifully done! Incredibly poignant, and your characterization is excellent. I particularly liked Brigitta being the only one who remembered Liesl's birthday and offering as much as a little girl could. The interaction between Liesl and her father was truly perfect. You've done a wonderful job of infusing a truly tragic story with lighter moments, as well. I really am very very much impressed ;-)
jordananne chapter 1 . 8/6/2006
Oh please write more! I am sitting here sobbing! That was so good!

It is clear you have great writing talents just by this small story! You could go in so many different directions with it, I am picturing them all in my head!

You could make this a prolouge and make a story similar to TSOM but make it mainly about Lisel's stuggles being the oldest, even after Maria comes!

Please let me know if you continue to go forward with this!
cheersweetie chapter 1 . 8/6/2006
Absolutely wonderful! I cried through the whole thing. You should definately write more in a series.
silverwhitewinters chapter 1 . 8/3/2006
You have really brought Liesl to life in this lovely story, and it's so beautifully written! I'm glad to see her having a chance to say goodbye to her mother; at her age, she's the one of the children who really understands what's happening. I can really see her like this at twelve, shouldering responsibility for her siblings and being the Captain's "fine, brave girl." Knowing what lies ahead of the family makes your story even more poignant. I also love your Brigitta, remembering Liesl's birthday, even during that difficult time, and offering a much-loved book as a gift.

Thank you so much for sharing this story, and I hope to see more from you soon!
Galan chapter 1 . 8/2/2006
That was beautiful. I liked how Agathe almost seemed to realize that the Captain would need someone to look after him. It seems that you captured him right before he turns into the Brooding Captain.

The end was particularly poignant, with Liesl unable to hear her father give her what might be the last bit of real affection for years to come. You captured the characters wonderfully and in a lovely style of writing. I hope you will continue with Sound of Music stories, because this one and any others you submit will be marvelous addition!
lindainsweden chapter 1 . 8/2/2006
This was almost too sad for me to read. It's always painful when people die but I think you've managed to make Agathes death very calm and nice. I'm thrilled to see what else you will write about! Good work!
