Reviews for The Way of the Sword
Geckohawaii chapter 1 . 4/21/2010
"I thought about the meaning of life." BWAHAHA! I literally lol-ed there. A couple of other places too, great fic! Your Hiko is perfectly, matter-of-factly full of himself. Love it!
Stormie Greye chapter 1 . 3/6/2009
Wonderful! You portray Kenshin and Hiko's character as well as their relationship so effectively. I thought this one-shot was going to be too long, but I was done reading it before I knew it. Then I became sad because I wanted to read more!

Hiko may appear to be a big arrogant jerk, but he's secretly a marshmellow underneath all that. I know he was happy that Kenshin wanted to stay with him, although he will never openly admit it.

I adore your writing style, so I hope you continue to write on. :)
Riku-Rocks chapter 1 . 1/14/2009
That was sweet yet still befitting of these characters...I did not think that was possible where Hiko was concerned. Well done.
MysteryLady-Tx chapter 1 . 9/12/2008
I love HIKO and that was just AWESOME, I really enjoyed it, very much, but Poor Kenshin the only time he ever felt KenKi was when he saw it in action, so of course he would be a little freaked out by it being thrown directly at him...YIKES...but Hiko has to understand that Kenshin is just a little boy in this and that little kids have a hard time understanding abstract things...

THANKS:"D
Bread-Making-Viking chapter 1 . 11/1/2007
I love Hiko. You portrayed his haughtiness perfectly.

Nice job!
ferryboat George chapter 1 . 10/11/2007
More warm fuzzies. You're really good at writing Hiko :P
AmunRa chapter 1 . 5/13/2007
This was very cute! Hiko can be sensitive when he wants to be, even though he likes to pretend otherwise, even to himself.

Thank you for sharing.
Suttee chapter 1 . 4/25/2007
Wonderful one-shot! I think you have taken Kenshin-Hiko fics to a new level of perfection. It's really hard to find a Hiko with such a perfect balance of humor, pragmatism, perception, self-confidence and exceptional culinary skills (Of course Kenshin was taught by a genius! It's not like he could carry a kitchen around with him while wandering...). It's really a refreshing shot after all those fics in which Hiko's only redeeming quality was drinking massive amounts of sake. Anyway... I look forward to reading more of them!
JessiTsuki chapter 1 . 4/20/2007
Yay this story was cute. Very good. .
gure chapter 1 . 12/30/2006
Oh, this is very nicely done. Poor Kenshin; he definitely figured out what ki feels like... I have a huge soft spot for Hiko/Kenshin relationship fics, and this is such a good one!

Hiko's characterization is spot-on. His humility knows no bounds! "A testament, no doubt, to my natural skill as a teacher." *snerk* Awesome.

Hiko's ungainliness as a parent is portrayed well. You can tell he's never had a great deal of contact with children. _

I very much liked the idea of Hiko giving Kenshin a choice about whether or not to continue training. It never occurred to me until reading this, that in the manga, Hiko just tells Kenshin that he's going to teach him swordsmanship. It just sounds, in very typical Hiko fashion, that he's granting Kenshin this wonderful boon. Who would think to question it? Great story!
DesertRose3000 chapter 1 . 12/30/2006
I like your portrayal of Hiko and Kenshin's relationship. In most stories, Hiko is portrayed as this jerk who gets off on abusing Kenshin. I don't think Kenshin would have stayed with someone who was nasty to him. I certainly think Hiko was stern and strict, after all a practitioner of Hiten Mitsurugi must be strong, but there's a fine line between that and nasty. I think you found balance.
Kristy-chan chapter 1 . 12/27/2006
wow great job! It was an amazing oneshot!
skenshingumi chapter 1 . 12/27/2006
This was really lovely. You write Hiko so well, keeping him firmly in character and yet showing his tender, thoughtful side. Hard as it is to image out of context, you made it seem real that he would pull Kenshin into his lap. I loved the way that neither of them actually relaxed and yet it was clear that Hiko got his point across and helped Kenshin at the same time. I certainly never made the connection before of sensing ki and the bandit raid. You turned a humorous moment in training to something deeper that echoes with Kenshin’s later choices.
Warg chapter 1 . 12/17/2006
Finally..

But well worth the wait.

Loved this, in its tender moments, and catching imagery, strong tone, and well, your amazing detailed yet never dragging style. See, i can't even make a review not drag :P

So yea, awesome work here, but you already knew I was gonna say that _

Things to pick out would be the places where it would have been so easy to mutilate Hiko's character, but you held firm. Also, the feel of "daily life" in the prose was a amusing add-on.

Thanks for the wonderful read, and I can't wait for more.

WolfDaughter chapter 1 . 12/17/2006
Excellent! You write so beautifully, and your characterizations are right on target. You did a fantastic job of capturing Hiko's arrogance, as well as his caring for Kenshin. You also did a beautiful job of reminding us that Hiko himself wasn't that old when he took Kenshin in and probably didn't really know what he was doing. Great job! I love the Hiko/Kenshin interaction.
