I really like the formatting, and the way you build up the story. The lines that repeat some things - Shikamaru thinking, for example. And the way Ino's letter reached him before, but he did not accept it.

I really liked how Shikamaru's thinking was included into the story. How he does not think because he's lazy, how he realizes he has to in order not to be left behind, how he stops when it gets annoying and he does not want to deal with things. How he finally finds the one way to convey those feelings, and how he reacts to Ino receiving the paper airplane. It's very much like him. I think you've characterized him spot-on.

I also like your Ino. Hopeful, but not overly annoying. Maybe she's that way, who knows, there were only snippets of her in this story, but I hope for the best. I like her best with Shikamaru, too :)
