This is a marvelous story. The characters, all of them, are pleasantly interesting and help the story. It is extremely well written and the plot is very strong. It is one of the few stories I have found here to be worth reading more than once. Although it is notably darker and grittier than the cannon, especially with such a significant death at the beginning, it holds together well and the tone works well with the plot. The most impressive part though was how you managed to put the cannon characters through all this, and even at the very end they were all still identifiable as the characters you started with, albeit changed by the events of the story. At the end SG-1 still exists, even after all they have been through and all that they have lost. I have definitely found reading this story to be as enjoyable as watching the show, even without Jack. Thank you very much for writing this story.

I delayed reading this fic because of Jack's death. I don't like death fics, though I've been known to read them when I'm depressed about something. But I have to say that this is one of the best-written stories I've read in a long, long time.

First of all, I enjoy how you didn't skip out on Jack's death. He didn't ascend, he didn't come back through alien means. . . .It's a hole that the rest of SG-1 has to deal with. Secondly, I loved the twist you had about the Asgard and how you put the characters-particularly Teal'c and Sam-in the position of having to find a way to live and trust even Thor again. But Daniel's portion of the story, however, was just brilliant.

Elena was a wonderful surprise, and, even though things didn't end well for her and "Jacques," it was great to see him happy again. (Would love to see a sequel where Elena and Daniel get to meet again some day in the future!) The lack of resolution about the people who want to kill him was, again, wonderfully done. Although that portion of the story is left hanging, the story feels complete because Daniel's resigned to his life as it is now. He's back at the SGC, doing what he does best, and trying to make a life out of this new world that was forced upon him. And, with his heart broken again!

Wonderful, wonderful work! Definitely a story I'll read time and time again!

My God that was just bloody brilliant. It has to be one of the best Stargate stories I have ever read. It felt like I was feeling everything that Daniel was going through. Amazing!

I have been reading Pain the last few months and only now just thought to look into your other SG1 fics. I must say that this one is one of the most heart-wrenching Danielcentric stories I have read. I truly enjoyed the intricacies of the AU plot. You obviously took much pains to ensure that all the details of the plot wove themselves seamlessly into an extremely intriguing, and angst filled story! I love your Daniel. He is so kind, self-less and so full of hurt. I really thought he would end up with Elena :( In my imagination Daniel looks her up, and the big bad men leave them alone long enough for Daniel and Elena to love each other forever.

You see, I'm Brazilian (born and raised here ˆˆ) and I'd just like to let you know, for your future sotries, two little things: In portuguese, the name Manoel would be writen Manuel - And, honestly, this is a name that's not very popular arround here. They use it much more in Portugal. - And Elena would be Helena, same pronunciation, just writen diferetly.
