May 2012 - Bottom line: I LOVE to read! I read everything from the ingredients list on canned food labels, to cereal boxes, to junk mail. Fan-fiction, though is my guilty pleasure. I've been reading fan-fic for almost 13 years! Yikes! It turns out that the fandom is not necessarily the reason I read a story- it's the characters, the angst, the hurt/comfort, the plot-of course. I read everything from SG-1 to LOTR to Justified to Avengers. As long as the author is brilliant in his/her depiction of my favorite fictional characters, as long as the author takes me -and Steve Rogers or Steve McGarrett- beyond the movie or T.V. show and make the impossible seem possible, then I'm in :) Thank you to all those who write for those of us who do not possess the talent or confidence or courage to put to paper what we see in our imaginations. Keep on writing, and I promise that I will keep on reading! I am merely a lurker. This means that I lurk in the shadows and only come out to enjoy the works of such talented authors like Lamiel, Legolas Q, Kassim, Alinah, and many others. I only discovered LOTR fanfic this year. I don't know what took me so long!! I can only blame it on my infatuation with SG1 and SG1 fanfic the last 10 years or so. Needless to say, I saw the LOTR movies when they first premiered and like the rest of the world I was taken aback by the beauty and grace of one blond-haired, blue-eyed immortal. I did not follow up on LOTR until I watched the DVDs some weeks back. Again, what took me so long, I do not know :) Sadly, it seems that I missed out on years worth of well written, angst ridden, heart-stopping, adventure-filled LOTR stories. I am only now reading and reviewing. Some authors have made me cry, sob, anger, and laugh out loud at such painstakingly well written stories. Others of you have given me near fatal heart attacks because of unfinished works from years back. Now before delving into a story I check its status and try to steer away from unfinished works. My poor little heart can only take so much. As you may be able to tell by my favorite stories list, I am a die hard Legolas and Legolas angst fan. Aragorn/Legolas friendship, adventure, and angst are good too as long as they are Legolas-centric ;) As I read author profiles I am taken aback by the youth of some of the writers at the time they posted their stories. I bow humbly before you. At my ripe old age of 35 I still do not possess in my pinky finger the amount of talent some of you did at the age of 18 or 20. I will continue to read and enjoy the work so many of you have been so kind as to share. In the back of my mind I dream of one day writing my own LOTR story but don't know if there will be anyone around to read it. Perhaps if PJ ever comes out with The Hobbit movie, interest in LOTR will be renewed and some others will return to writing and posting. Again, just a wonderful thanks to so many wonderfully talented writers for allowing so many to enjoy your works :) Peace and love, js P.S. So now I must add Supernatural fanfiction to my list of new fic addictions! The angst is incredible, especially if it's Dean-centric ;) One more add-on. So even though I'm old enough to be a sexy older sister to Arthur, I just can't get enough of him. There's something about blond, blue-eyed heroes that makes me swoon! Merlin fic is what I am now devouring. Sadly, the stories are lacking as I presume it's a young group flexing their writing muscles...and what's with the Merlin/Arthur slash...ewwwww! The Merlin character is just way too skinny, but I digress. I hope to find well written Arthur-centric angst, hurt/comfort fic soon. P.P.S. Well, A-LO-HAAAAAAAAAAA! I have become totally captivated by the macho man-Super-Seal-Rambo known as Steve McGarrett and am now a H50 aficionado ;) I thoroughly enjoy a very hurt/maimed/bleeding/broken/beat-up Steve with a supportive-ranting-raving Danno by his side :) As it is such a new fandom I am having fun rummaging through the precious gems I find here and on lj. Again, if anyone ever reads a reader's/reviewer's bio...I am willing to beta. I am an English major turned educator and would gladly help dot their i's and cross their t's! I'm very good with grammar and punctuation. I'm just sayin' that I'm here if anyone needs me. I've also been told that I make a very good cheer squad/encourager to writers in need of some cheer and encouragement. One last thing! I just returned from a one week stay on the island of Oahu, baby! Yes! The 32 hours to get there and back were well worth the 3 connections and 3 hour layovers at each hub!!! I did not find McGarrett's house, but not for lack of trying, but the whole experience gives me a whole new perspective on the show! |
