Ah Dis, happy for once. At least she will have Hather to console her when she gets the bad news. Unless things change? We can only hope.

What a lovely, long story - you're a prolific writer! IMO, your characterizations are great, and a story like this helps fans understand/ease Dis's great loss. She deserves happiness:) And a lot more written about her. A very satisfying plot progression and enjoyable read in all. Would love to read more of your work (but personally I prefer K-T ratings - M-rated fics don't show up on the main page ).

I loved this work.
So much emotions, and details about all of them. We often see so little of everyone who is not Thorin, and the usuals Balin and Dwalin are often mostly drawn in one or two defining traits. None of that here, we explore a little pf Thorin's self hollowing heart and his struggle to not loose himself, we melt at youngs Kili and Fili, so so innocents and lovely, we discover a complexe Dwalin, appreciate so much more Balin and Dis and wow, you made time for Bifur and his brothers i loved that, loved that you show the links they're all making years before their quest, the place and assurance they're carving amongst themselves.
Your story is rich, dwelves in the difficulties they have to make a life out of their boundaries while trying to keep traditions and communitie's spirit strong. Through Hathor's eyes you show their limits and failures to change enough to live and not just go by, and there are beautiful lessons about pride and sense in here too.
Still, it made me sad thinking that in dwarves years, Hather would be an old man when The Oakenshield Company goes on its quest. With Thorin, Kili and Fili ultimately dead, i only hope Dis still has Hather...maybe others children, who would not be recognised as Durin's heirs and therefore, not widely known nor spoken of ? Oh, just remembered he is of the Dunedain, so, slow aging. that's good (reviews are good for thinking).
Anyway, wanted to say thank you for writing this, sharing it and inspiring me.

Beautifully written. This can't be all there is! Hathar has to help Thorin slay Smaug! Only thing I would say is please break chapters up so they are on separate "pages." It is frustrating to read one long document on an iphone. I keep losing my place & have to scroll all the way down.
