Chapter 44

Montreal, Canada, 6 months later

Mag closed her eyes and leaned her head back. Her day had been very long, and she was tired. A nice bath was just what she needed right now. The local werewolf pack had asked for her help and today she had assisted a young werewolf woman giving birth to triplets. Thankfully all the babies had survived. Mag sighed and relaxed in the warm water.

She had been in Canada almost two weeks and she was looking forward to seeing Lucien tomorrow. She opened her eyes and slowly lifted her left hand. The ring was beautiful, although she hadn't completely got used to it yet. Lucien had proposed to her a night before she had come to Canada.

"You are the most amazing woman I've ever met. You make me happy the way I never thought would be possible and I want to make you happy as well. I want to give you everything. You already have my undying love and devotion; my heart belongs only to you. Will you do me the honor of being my queen?"

Mag had never thought that she would get married again. After she had said yes, Lucien had promised her any kind of wedding she would want. What she wanted was a small simple wedding. No guests, just the two of them. She believed that they would be happy together. Friends, lovers, companions. She smiled while finally getting out of the bathtub. She was calm and happy as she wore her light satin nightie and opened the wine bottle Tristan had sent her.

Dear Mag

Congratulations on your engagement.

Sincerely

Tristan

PS. You really could do better

The wine was very rare and expensive. Mag had considered sharing it with Lucien, but then she had remembered how huge his wine collection was. Surely, he wouldn't mind if she would have this bottle by herself. She poured herself a glass and made herself comfortable on the couch. She wanted to call Lucien. Or maybe she could send him a naughty picture. He had made it very clear how eager he was to see her tomorrow.

After a second glass of wine, she decided to go for it and sent him a picture of her breasts. She had never done anything like it before, but with him she had felt safe enough to try new things. Many new things.

She had just finished her third glass when a knock startled her. She wasn't expecting anyone, and she hadn't ordered anything from the room service. Hopefully nothing was wrong with the triplets or their mother. Quickly she wrapped a bathrobe around her before opening the door. Kol. She froze as she saw him.

"Hello Mag," he said.

"What are you doing here?" she murmured. She hadn't seen him after leaving New Orleans.

"I... Can I come in?"

"Why?"

"I mean no harm, I swear. I would only like to talk."

Mag looked at him and crossed her arms.

"Are you planning to compel me again?"

"No, no, I swear. Please, this won't take long."

Mag hesitated, but finally she nodded.

"Alright."

"Thank you."

She stepped aside, allowing him to enter the room.

"So, what can I do for you?" she asked. "If your family needs something, I'm afraid I'm not going to..."

"No, this isn't about them," Kol cut in. "I haven't seen them since I left." He paused and turned to look at Mag. "I went to England. Finn is currently living there with his wife. He was very happy to hear that you're alive and he sent you his best."

"Oh. I'm happy to hear that everything is alright with him," Mag replied.

"Yeah, he's fine. Happy."

"That's good."

They were both quiet for a moment, Kol's eyes narrowed as he noticed the ring on Mag's finger.

"You and Lucien?" he murmured.

"Yes, we're engaged."

"Right. It's serious then."

"Yes."

The silence felt uncomfortable and finally Mag had to break it.

"Why are you here, Kol?"

"I wanted to apologize. I had no right to compel you and... I didn't handle anything well. I'm sorry."

Mag hadn't expected that, but she nodded.

"I accept your apology."

"Thank you. The last thing I want is for you to hate me."

She shook her head.

"I don't hate you, Kol, I never have."

"That's good." He paused and hesitated for a moment before continuing. "Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"When you said that you were going to choose me... Did you mean that?"

"Kol..."

"Please, tell me. Did you mean that?"

"Yes."

Kol pressed his lips together.

"Is there any way..."

"No," she cut in gently. "I'm sorry, but no. I'm not the same person I was back then, and I don't think that you are either."

"It's not fair," he murmured. "I would have made you happy..."

"I'm sure you would have, but we can't go back to the past. You deserve to be happy and loved and I'm sure you're going to find your happiness."

"Sure," he murmured.

She took his hand between her own.

"I mean it. You deserve to be happy. Find that happiness."

"It's not that easy..."

"I know, but it's possible. Believe me, I know."

"Right. You really are happy then? With Lucien?"

"Yes, I am. I love him."

Kol was quiet for a moment before nodding.

"I can't say I would like that, but I do want you to be happy. You deserve it."

"So do you," Mag replied smiling.

Kol sighed.

"Lucien really doesn't deserve you. That's my opinion."

Mag smiled and kissed Kol's cheek.

"And if he ever mistreats you in any way, let me know. I'll make him regret it."

"Thank you for the offer, but I believe I'll manage."

"We'll see. You just take care of yourself."

"You too."

She hugged him, sincerely hoping him all the best.

"So, where are you planning to go from here?" she asked after pulling away.

He shrugged.

"I'll probably travel for a while."

"That sounds nice."

"Yeah. I'll see you around."

"Sure. Good luck with everything."

Mag sat on the couch for a long while after Kol had left. She hoped that he would be alright. Something told her that he would be. She poured herself another glass of wine and was just about to pick up her phone when someone knocked on the door again. Now what?

"You really enjoy torturing me, don't you?" Lucien said as soon as Mag opened the door.

Her lips curved into a wide smile.

"What do you mean?"

"The picture you sent me," he huffed. "I was in the middle of a meeting."

"Oh. I'm sorry, I didn't mean..."

He muffled the rest of her sentence with a hungry kiss.

"I missed you," he murmured.

"I can feel that," she giggled as she pressed her hips against his erection.

He lifted her up and closed the door behind him.

"My sweet Mag... I love you so much."

She smiled and ran her fingers softly over his cheek.

"I love you too."
